Cell Bio. and Biochemistry double major at UMich.?

I want to get a double major in Cell Bio. and Biochemistry at LSA. However I cam across this:

“Students who elect a major in Biochemistry may not elect the following majors: Biology, General Biology; Cell and Molecular Biology; CMB:Biomedical Engineering; Ecology and Evolutionary Biology; Microbiology; or Neuroscience. They may also not elect a minor in Biology, or any of the Chemistry minors.”

So does this mean they will not allow you to double major in these two subjects?

Correct. I presume their reasoning is that biochemistry is too similar to the other majors for the double major to make sense.

Just because you can’t formally double major in these two subjects, doesn’t mean that you can’t take the courses required to fulfill both sets of major requirements. Ultimately, the courses you have taken and the grades you have earned in them is what matters, not what your diploma indicates your major to be.

Well that sucks

These different majors are all derived from Biology/Biochemistry from a couple decades ago. Those used to be different focuses under the same major. It makes no sense to double major two of the related fields as you can just take the same course either either major. It would not help your career either.

Well, does anyone know if it can be done at Rice then?
