Cellphones?

Umm so I got here today and I'm looking to purchase a cellphone.
I was looking for the best contracts until I found out that I actually need a Social Security Number in order to have any. Then this guy at Sony told me that Sprint is the only one that doesn't require a SSN (just make up any number), and all u need is a mailing address (btw I don't live in the US, nor am I a citizen, so I don't have a SSN).

Since I'm not familiar with the city, I don't know any places where I can buy Sprint phones, so I'm thinking it's more practical to order it online...

Any advice on this one?
Thanks.

IDK whom you were speaking to, but Sprint requires a SSN last time I checked. You could buy prepaid? Or, go with metroPCS (they don't require a credit heck, thus no SSN... first month is free, unlimited talk time).

There's also Boostmobile which requires no credit check. Google "no credit check cell phone" or something like that. Then you won't need an SSN. They also have an Unlimited plan, with ability to add unlimited wireless web.

Also, you may be able to get an SSN even though your not a citizen, depending on your visa type, for credit purposes, work purposes, etc.. Try applying for one. You should be able to if they also allow you to work in the US. And, if that doesn't work, go to Peachtree St. and buy one off of one of the many vendors (I'm joking of course... this is illegal; but if you REALLY wanted one, you could get one).

Thanks for the reply.
The guy told me that Sprint does ask you for a SSN but said that you could just put in any random numbers since they don't really check it.

But I guess I'll have to research other possible choices. Are metroPCs any good?

Oh and can you guys direct me to any possible Sprint stores near campus? I went all the way to Lenox Square and couldn't find any.

Stores in Atlanta: sprint atlanta - Google Maps

For an international student, I would go with a "pay as you go service" which requires only a valid credit card. ATT and others I'm sure have this.
