My son has decided on CCCS study abroad program to Seville. Is anyone familiar with this program? He plans on living with a host family. Is this better than living in dorms at a university?

Did your child end up studying with this company? What was your experience with the program? My daughter is also interested in one of their programs in another country, but we’ve heard some negative reviews and I’m not totally sure if CCCS will be a good idea. Apparently, CCCS is for profit company that runs these types of travel abroad programs. They are not a real school. My daughter’s college offers many different travel abroad options and I’m inclined to direct her towards one of their study exchange programs at a university abroad rather than have us pay a private company. What are your thoughts?

I am not familiar with this company but there are many schools that work with third party companies all the time and you never know about it. I have studied abroad and lived in my own apartment not connect with student housing at all.

Depending on what your son wants to get out of studying abroad will greatly depend on what type of housing he lives in. Here are the major pros and cons for each

Host family
Pros - You Get to live with the culture eat the culture and breathe the culture everyday
Cons - living with a stranger may be difficult and their life may not be on the same wave length as yours

Dorms
Pros - everyone is on the same page more international students greater freedom easier to meet like minded students
Cons - May not pick up the culture as much can be more distractions

Apartment
Pro - greatest amount of freedom
Cons - harder to meet students and get involved in activities

I feel the dorms are always a good median, but have heard people that loved their host families and would not trade them in for the world. I guess it depends on what type of host family you stay with really.
