Has anyone ever attended CMU as a Centralis Scholarship recipient? What did you think of your experience there?
@maloka I came to this site to seek a lot of information, and this was one of my questions. My D won a Centralis Gold scholarship and was wondering about the experiences of others who have used it. Have you learned anything here or from any other sources?
Central Michigan is a very popular school for Michigan students. I know a number of CMU grads who have good jobs and are doing well in life. There is a lot to be said for such a generous scholarship, and being in the honors program provides extra opportunities.
@kelsmom Thank you for the reply! My D20 did end up accepting the scholarship and is headed there in August. She is looking forward to being part of the Honors Program and being a part of the school.
I am so happy to hear this! I hope your D enjoys CMU and takes advantage of all that will be available for her.
Do you mind sharing stats?
Sure, happy to share. D20 graduated HS with a 4.13, 8 APs, 1490 SAT, 33 ACT, 1 leadership position, multiple clubs, and dance. She was 6th in her class of 726 students.
She enjoys CMU and being part of the Honors Program. She is a TA for Honors 101. As a Mechanical Engineering student, she spends a LOT of time studying but still fits in clubs and socializing. She lives in the Science and Engineering Residential College this year and occasionally tutors fellow residents in calculus.
She is very happy that with the full-tuition scholarship, our small 529, and money from her summer jobs, she should graduate debt free.
Let me know if you have any further questions!
Thank you so much! .My daughter visited over the summer (we are from Texas) and she is really excited about Central. She has a 5.64 GPA ( @ 4.5) she hasn’t tested Jr year, we are hoping for 1350-1450 range. She will be valedictorian, but small school, 141 in her class. Normal list StuCo, NHS, volunteer at hospital, part time job, Awards in music and art. She is wanting to go to med school, so she is very serious about getting well rounded education and graduating with no debt. That no debt part is a little hard…lol. We don’t qualify for any help, so she really needs as close to a full ride as we can manage. Central Michigan is really a perfect little space for her.
I really thank you for your info, it gives us hope
