Yes. I thought I had gathered from your post that you had planned on raising your ACT score. Should you raise it even a single point to a 31 I would feel a lot more comfortable telling you a large envelope willl be sitting in your mailbox addressed from Davidson. I don't have much expieince making these predictions but I would say Act 31 = chances are > 75% (with everything else you bring to the table, your GPA and rank truly are impressive, the 250 service hours stand out etc.) ACT 32 = 85%, ACT 33 = 95%. I'm sure she would like a second opinion on these and I don't mind at all if you think I am wrong. Moral of the story here is that you are talking the next four years of your life, give yourself every advantage you can get towards getting in to your top choice school.

If my estimates above weren't proffessional what I'm about to say surely isn't anywhere close. OK, here goes. Isn't the one reason you can break the early decision agrement... Finances!? Davidson Financial Aid is between good and reasonable. I don't think you risk too much by applying early. That is to say another school isn't likely to give you that much more unless it is merit. Davidson's financial aid office makes the proccess feel good, they will listen and work with you if it is the deciding factor for you they will even work weekends... Additionally you always have that option of breaking Early Decision by financial concerns. Though you may want a second opinion on that from a real colege counsellour. Lets not forget, the idea behind applying early was to give you a shot at Belk which we believe depending on where you can go on the ACT that you have a legitamate shot at.

This may be a good way to begin a conversation with someone at Davidson. ask them about Belk, early decision vs regular decision in relationg to Belk, your concerns about finanvial aid. It is importnat to get on their radar screen. It may also confirm some of what I am saying. Another great way to do this is to meet an Davidson representitive when they are in your area ideally at your school with your guidance counselour.

All right enough for today, you have good chances and they look even better after you take the ACT again, but anyhow I'll still say Good Luck.

I will be taking the ACT again in late Sept., so I will have a pretty good idea then of my situation...thanks for your advice!
I will be visiting Davidson the weekend before I go to take the ACT, and hopefully then I will be able to talk with some people regarding financial aid, ED, etc.
Does anyone else have any predictions about my acceptance? even with my current score of 30?

Wow. I am a junior and Davidson is my top choice for college. However, I can't afford it by a lonnnnng stretch. I thought that i might have had a chance for a scholarship...but now im not sure!

*I talked to our college consuler, and She said i have a good chance to go to Girl State

I havent taken SATs...but...any chance for the Belk Scholarship? Or anything that could bring tuition and fees down to like 15,000? Should I even stress this early on?

Wouldn't you qualify for need-based financial aid? That is a whole other category from the merit-based named scholarships, and it seems to me that if you are attending a private school on scholarship now you would be requesting need-based aid from your colleges anyway (requring FAFSA forms etc). Keep in mind too that Davidson offers a number of smaller merit-based scholarships, so your should certainly not feel discouraged yet.

Yes, when I filled out my Davidson FA paperwork, I thought the extra stuff they required was absurd. The value of our cars? Why would they need to know that?

However, when I got my FA, it matched my need extremely well. From what I've heard from Davidson students, their need was nicely met too. Davidson really seems to try to cut the cost of the education down.

Apply for outside scholarships. The most important thing is to get $4-5000 in outside scholarships to eliminate loans.
