I think that both of these are solid candidates for Middlebury. My personal opinion is that #2 has too many extracurriculars without really showing dedication to any specific one. I think that would give #1 just a slight advantage. those are my two cents.

Student 1-if planning on, and able to ski for Midd, excellent applying ED

Student 2-Needs to retake the SAT, or switch to the ACT and get better scores-the 630 isn’t good, esp with the 690, and push the writing angle or be able to swim for Midd, or both.

Both students need to have taken the most difficult courses their school offers.

Both have taken v. diff. classes. Student 1 is able to ski and Student 2 is all about writing. Thanks! any other opinions?

My S-all about writing, too, won three awards for his school newspaper(editor-in-chief) from NYS- BEST student column, best editorial, best page-
800/760/690 wait-listed. All SAT2s over 730, 4.0 average IB.You need more.

Do you have any suggestions? student 2 is southeast asian and from midwest, if can be considered a hook

Not a hook unless you are financially disadvantaged. Asians are not URM. Absolutely apply ED, visit, e-mail a prof to sit in one a class that interests you, and show the love.

is financially disadvantaged.

Well, that will help depending on how disadvantaged. Do the other stuff and apply ed. You also need to redo the SAT, or try the ACT and see if you can get a 31.

If swimming is the sport you got the coaches cup for, consider swimming. Check the Midd times posted on their athletic site to see if you are a reasonable prospect. There is a new swim coach, so there may be turnover and room for more prospects this year. You would need to fill out the recruiting form now. The invites for recruiting weekends are prolly going out in the next 2 weeks, if they haven’t already.

Prospective athletes are about twice as likely to be accepted compared to the average member of the applicant pool.
