Your grades and scores are a bit low. Seriously, are you applying to other schools slightly less selective than Cornell and Northwestern? Like NYU, Boston U, USC, UCLA, UVA, etc.?

Are you African American (Black) or are you North African (Arab/Berber)? Either way it will help because I think both groups are underrepresented. But it is also lying to check black if you are Moroccan and this could hurt your chances.

Thanks guys. Btw in my school’s records I am identified as African American. I have never considered myself white. Plus I have the outstanding participant award in the national achievement scholarship program that says I’m in the top 3% of African American PSAT test takers .

Northwestern has been actively trying to recruit under-represented minorities, esp males. I think you stand a chance though you’re right that ED would’ve been safer. Typically, if NU dips below what it normally goes for, it wants to know that the person will attend so keep that in mind. Make an effort to show your interest, as it will be noted for sure. Also, I believe that if you come from an inner-city school system (e.g. CPS), you will get extra consideration. There are groups on campus lobbying for exactly this. Don’t know if you come from this background or not.

Well idk because lausd schools are pretty bad. Our guidance counselor said that the average sat is a 1420. However the magnet part of the school is very competitive.

Plus. How can I show interest? I’ve emailed the admissions office maybe 6 times since sophomore year and I’m attending a local reception led by a current student.

Find out who the rep from admissions is for your state/area and try to establish some relationship, even if by email. If you have applied already, make sure to request an interview asap as those get filled up right away. Even if you don’t get one, they will make a note of your request, thus showing interest.
