The only thing added to my app since ED was being named Intel STS Semifinalist. I was wondering if that is enough of a boost for me to become accepted. Thanks!

Where did you apply!? Very impressive resume, if I do say so myself. The only schools I could see deferring you would have to be literally the best of the best - Harvard or MIT? The only reason would be for the GPA, too; maybe the SAT Is. I think adding Intel on there will significantly increase your chances.

I think it would help a lot for a potential science major like u, and congrats on Intel STS…it must have been awesome.

Oh, i thought it was implied, but I was deferred from Duke ED.

I’m pretty sure that Dean Guttentag has pretty much stated that if you were deferred early decision, you had a very low chance of getting in regular.

@WongTongTong, I know. Historically about 10% (roughly 70 out of 700, I think) of the deferred students get in regular, I was just curious if you guys thought the Intel Semifinalist Award would push me into that 10%.

Did you send your research materials to Duke already in the ED round? If you did, then I doubt Intel will increase your chances significantly since they’ve already seen your research. However, congrats for becoming a semifinalist and best of luck in the RD round!

I’d be surprised if you got an unfavorable result…just my opinion though.
