Recs will hopefully be all great, from teachers who’ve also been my club advisors, so they know me well. I’ve gotten 98s and 99s in classes with them. GC rec will be good. Another rec from W&M instructor.

Can’t judge my own work, but my Common App. essay is adapted from the essay which won the NCTE award and is about my experience at William and Mary, volunteer project, and how it relates to my love of history.

Applying to: Cornell ALS (Applied Econ.), Case Western EA, Emory, Harvard, Northeastern (EA), Rice, Stanford, SUNYs (EA), William and Mary, and Yale.

Applying as a history major, except at Cornell (see above).
I am looking to get merit aid at the schools that offer it. These are: Northeastern, Case Western, Emory, W&M, and Rice. What are my chances for merit aid?

Please let me know what you think my chances are at any of these schools. I’d love to hear feedback on ways to improve by the fall!

PS - Any thoughts on other schools I should apply to? I'm looking for a diverse, challenging, quirky school, preferably with a good merit aid program and good research opportunities.

Thanks so much!

Cornell ALS- reach for everyone
Case Western EA- match
Emory- match
Harvard- reach for everyone
Northeastern (EA)- low match
Rice- high match
Stanford- reach for everyone
SUNYs (EA)- safety
William and Mary- low match
Yale. - reach for everyone

Some of these schools may have some concern about your quantitative skills since you have not taken AP Calculus AB yet. I know my son took the Math II for the same reason. You may want to do the same. Otherwise, I agree with barrk, except Rice I think is a reach not a high match for most.

I think you’re an extremely competitive applicant for ALL schools… Good luck! Not that you’ll need it haha :)

This is just a note, but schools can’t actually save spots for minorities. I know schools are looking for diversity, but the spots usually go a well rounded student (no matter what race). It is illegal for a school to have a quota of minorities they want to enroll each year. With that said you seem to be a well rounded student. Keep it up.

Thanks for the feedback, everyone. I appreciate it! perazziman, thanks for the advice on Math II. I hadn’t even thought of that. I might take it in October.

Would October be too late for the EA schools?

You should check their deadlines I think most schools have their EA deadline at Nov 1
