They might be great for pre-med, but I just don’t see the value proposition. If someone’s paying top dollar, then I don’t want them to have to deal with the hassles of large and overcrowded campuses and lack of a personalized attention and experience. But, that is obviously up to OP and her family.
@WayOutWestMom can list plenty of stats but California produces the most medical school applicants and there is not enough Medical school seats to accommodate all these applicants. The majority will end up at OOS Medical schools if they are lucky to get an acceptance.
Why do you want to send around $268K for 4 years of Undergrad at a UC when your stats can get you into some equally amazing schools with merit and a lower price tag?
Sorry for accidentally tagging you @thumper1
I’ve heard this said multiple times for CA residents because the schools are inexpensive, but you’re the first person I’ve heard recommend them for OOS. Often times one’s state publics are terrific places for pre-med due to their being less expensive. It’s a common recommendation.
I’m curious what your reasoning is for suggesting it for OOS…
I don’t think there are enough med school seats in any state to accommodate all their applicants unless things have changed recently. WV came the closest a few years ago when I saw a list.
Does going to a non-CA undergrad advantage one for a CA med school? Or vice-versa?
She said cost is not a factor.
She said she wants out of rural with hyper competition. Seems UC fits that bill.

I will assume that if users want to engage in the OT discussion of admissions rates at CA med schools that they can argue it via PM.
It’s one thing to ignore my directive. It’s even worse to ignore my directive to give extremely bad info and then have the thread spin out of control with debate Several posts deleted.
UC’s are cool because california, but so is caltech and stanford.
