Chance a Legacy ED for Penn School of Arts and Science

Penn is absolutely my first choice school. I would be beyond thrilled to be admitted, but I know that it’s an ivy school and for any “qualified” applicant, the chance of being admitted is slim. I also realize that my stats may be on the lower side. Regardless, I’d love for some of you to let me know what YOU think my chances are of being admitted. As the title suggests, I will be applying ED. I’m also unsure if I count as a legacy. My dad went to Penn, but he attended Wharton and I will not be applying to the business school.

GPA: 3.83/4 UW, 4.88 W
Rank: 6/215 (top 2.5-3%)
ACT- 31 (I plan to retake so hopefully this will go up, but you never know)
I’ll also be taking 3 SAT2s but I can’t be sure how I’ll do as of now
Courses: I’ve taken the toughest course load my school offers and I will graduate having taken more APs than any other student in my class. My AP classes include:
AP English Language
AP English Literature
AP World History
AP U.S. History
AP Biology
AP Calculus
AP U.S. Government
AP Psychology

Some ECs and Stuff:
-I work 10 hours per week during the school year, up to 40 during the summer
-Internship at insurance company... a job followed
-Community Service Group Leader 9-12 apx. 30 hours min a semester
-Competitive Horseback Riding- 8+ hours a week
-A few elected leadership positions at school
-NHS
-Founded a creative writing club
-Peer Leadership Training (30 hours a school year, 11-12)
-Co-captain of school ski team

There's more but I think you get the point... it might not look like a lot... but I honestly do not have time for anything else. I run my club before school, after school I work for a couple of hours, ride for an hour or so, and in the winter I have ski team... plus I have meetings for my leadership positions and I lead community service groups whenever I have extra time. I don’t believe I could possibly fit anything else in. I end up with very little time to do schoolwork and hardly any time for other things during the school week.

Thanks and be honest! I can take it. ; )

Raise the ACT to a 33, maintain your class standing, and I’d say you have a decent chance at any Ivy League school. However, since you’re a legacy (no simple distinction at Penn), I’d say you have a great chance to be accepted. I wouldn’t be surprised.

What do you mean by no simple distinction? and I agree. You have a good chance, mainly cause your LEGACY status + ED makes whatever you’re lacking somewhat… less lacking.

I think he means that Penn will consider me a legacy even though my dad went to Wharton and I’m applying to the School of Arts and Sciences… (they won’t see a distinction)

I’m definitely working on getting my ACT up… I just can’t say what will happen on test day just yet. : )

Does anyone else have any input? If I am not able to raise my ACT score, what do you think my chances will be?

Thanks again, guys!

Raise your ACT if you can but I think it’s enough at 31 with your class rank and EC’s. Apply ED and I am thinking your chances are excellent!

Thanks pennboy–I don’t think my chances are “excellent” by any means, ha, but thanks for the confidence boost.

Does anyone else have any idea as to what my chances might be?

anyone else? … bump
