Recs and essays very good.

Any help would be perfect. Just anxious about the next few weeks. Thanks in advance.

Your EC's are great, and It's impressive you've gone outside your HS to take classes. You also seem to show a focus on Mideast diplomacy, and focus is very good. Your ACT score however, doesn't seem in line with the rest of your application, and is downright below average for admission, not just by CC standards, but according to the common data set. Are you planning on retaking it or the SAT? I assume you're applying to the SFS? Keep in mindthat school is exceptionally competetive.

I was signed up to take the ACT again in June and would have likely gotten 31-32 but I had to ship out to Morocco. So sadly, the test scores are in stone. If it helps, I realize how competitive SFS is, and therefore plan on applying to the general college.

bumpbumpbump

careful about applying to the college with hope of an easier review. Apparently, adcoms look for these sorts of applications, ad usually reject them. Your EC's are so focused that it's obvious you want to study foreign relations. It might be easier if you say you want to major in something like a foreign Language, since then at least your interest in IR makes sense.

Whoa whoa, I would absolutely apply to the SFS, not the College in your case. I think you will be more at home there. Your scores are not everything, and with the extensive extra things you have done to bolster what is clearly your interest, I think you will be fine in SFS admissions (not that you'll get in necessarily, but that you will have a chance).

Also, UMich is a great choice for Middle Eastern studies; I looked at it for a while when I was considering this major.

what happened to spanish?

good question. Long term, I don't see myself ever using Spanish. Also, demand for Arabic is on the rise and will be necessary for my future career (national intelligence).

Demand for Arabic has peaked already. It peaked like 20 years ago actually and is now on the decline.

More "on the rise" languages include Chinese and Portuguese (Brazil's economy is growing faster than a man on viagra).

I really think its cool that you are studying Arabic though, dont get me wrong. you really should consider Umich though. My father attende the Mid east program there, then studied for 4 years at the American University in Cairo, then got a job in Saudi, so lots os opportunity at Umich.

Thats just what I think though.

Good Luck

Thanks. Realistically, I'll probably be at UMich for two years and look to transfer. As for the Arabic, it's not for business, it's for the federal gov't. As long as we're over there, they'll need Arabic.

Arabic is always needed along with Urdu, Farsi, Chinese, Korean, and Japanese. These are critical languages skills that are highly sought after by the CIA, Homeland Security, State, and DoD. I know for a fact that there are plenty of Fellowship programs given for Arabic at this time. A fellowship, masters required, allows you to bump up the GS pay at a faster rate. That, and the fact that most agencies are giving 7500 signing bonuses if you meet the qualifications and proficientcy in the language.

wow, I did not know that...
I am from Afghanistan so I know Farsi, Urdu from bollywood (i am not kidding, bollywood movies are the only form of entertainment in Afghanistan), and fluent in Spanish....

just need to master Arabic.....

I wish that could impress gtown and not look at my test scores...:(
