Chance a poor, lost soul, and I'll chance you back! (organized stats)

I am a 17 year old Asian in his senior year of a competitive and very large, diverse high school in IL (4100 students split between a fresh/soph campus and a junior/senior campus) (by the way, is "senior" supposed to be capitalised?)

Chances at:
Northwestern University (only school that recommends subject tests, and it recommends 3)
University of Chicago (only considers subject tests)
University of Michigan
University of Wisconsin Madison
University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana

My current school includes physical education in the GPA. Also, in IL, PE is a required course all four years of high school (you can opt out, but I did not take advantage of that by taking it over the summer 5 hours a day for several weeks).
At my previous school, I took the most rigorous courses except for Honors Spanish (I sort of regret not doing that now).
At this school, I am also taking the most rigorous courses.

GPA UW: 3.7
GPA W: 4.21
Projected graduating GPA W: 4.3 ~school no longer ranks (magna cum laude GPA= 4.2-4.4 and summa cum laude GPA= 4.4 and above, which is about top 3%)
Still, top 6-7 percent in a very large public school (class of 1000) (highest GPA is 4.63ish)
Freshman year: 4.0 UW/4.42 W
Sophomore year: 4.0/4.42
I transferred schools during summer vacation, and struggled during my the first semester of my junior year. I would easily be ranked in the top 15/1000 had I not struggled, probably with a 4.52 GPA
Junior year S1: 2.43/3.0 (I know)
Junior year S2: 3.71/4.57
Senior year projected S1: 3.83/ 4.67
Senior year projected S2: 3.83/4.67

ACT: 32/32
Math: 33/32
English: 31/33
Reading: 30/31
Science: 32/30

SAT II Chemistry: projected 750-790
SAT II Biology: projected 780-800
SAT II Math Level II: projected 760-780

Shadowed a gastroenterologist 30 hours (12)
Volunteer at a nursing home 40 hours (11)
Volunteer at a hospital in guest services 60-70 hours (12-I start tomorrow)

essays:
good-great (probably not excellent), some figurative language in them for creativity and my own unique style (especially for University of Chicago)

Teacher recommendations:
Very good
-AP Biology teacher: I am the top student in AP Biology out of 70-80 students, but that isn't completely reflected in the letter
-Honors Sophomore English teacher
-Honors Physics teacher

All feedback is greatly appreciated! I will chance those who chance me!

i think u might have a good shot at most of them except for Chicago which im not sure of.
Your not a poor lost soul so stop complaining…you have a 4.3 gpa geez

lol thank you. Your input is appreciated!

More input is desired!

bump bump …

If the ACT were higher, I could see the possibility of NU and Chicago tyring to work with you if there were stand out ECs which I don’t see. It would also be important to know how high the unweighted 3.7 is at your high school.

My advice is to work with your counselor to explain as best as possible and focus on the state schools on your list.

i agree with hmom5…while you have taken very hard classes and gotten decent scores, you really dont have shown any leadership in your activites, which is what a lot of schools look for. Of course, other than that, you have a pretty good chance of getting in to most of your colleges.

chance me?

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/798072-ed-duke-chances.html</a></p>

Leadership may be your downfall.
Chicago will be a reach.

I was in Indian club my junior year and current senior year, if that helps any? Also, since my ACT score is good, but not outstanding, should I retake it on the next available test date, December 12? I think I would be able to get a 33, as my highest composite using super scores from 2 tests is 32.25, if that helps.

I am also writing a research report on a health problem (either influenza or AIDS) and will suggest potential ways to improve people’s health based on the results of my examination of the data available concerning the disease.

Also, I am going to take the national and Illinois nursing home administrator license exam next summer before entering college.

Here is my updated resume:

I think you’ve got a good shot at them all…but what is your rank?

I think you’re good at the state schools, but Northwestern and UChicago will be a bit of a reach, because of ECs like previously mentioned and also because of the area you come from. I’m from the area, too, and if you’re at the school I’m thinking of, while both universities know its a great high school and take on a large number of students, you’re going to be competing with a lot of talented classmates, too.
Make sure you write a really good essay for UChicago, they like creativity and it can help you stand out :)

Chance another lost soul? but i’m more lost than usual. -_-

You have good chances but you lack a hook. You don’t have the best standardized tests but a good hook could really help you.

chance back?

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/804723-chances-ed-dartmouth.html</a></p>

Can a hook be considered as founding and residing as President of the club “Future Doctors of America” at my high school?

I’m going to start on this project today, and the club should officially be created later this week. It is at least a little unique, and I will be devoting quite a chunk of my time to its operation.

“by the way, is ‘senior’ supposed to be capitalised?”

Only at the beginning of a sentence.

Can a hook be considered founding and residing as President of the club “Future Doctors of America” at my high school?

The club won’t be for show or anything. We will try to get organizations like hospitals, possibly a forensic dentist, etc. involved and will create (maybe) and pass brochures to the public for H1N1 information and best prevention. We will also help guide students who want to go into the medical field, but aren’t sure of what steps to take and when. We will guide students who may be interested in the medical field, but aren’t sure if they really want to become physicians.

Starting this club is an idea I only surmised several hours ago, so I haven’t thought too much in depth yet. I will do that tomorrow on my day off from school.

I love biology, anatomy, and medicine. It’s my great passion, has always been so, and, fortunately, there is a discrete path toward becoming a physician. I also have lesser passions in language (learning Arabic and Mandarin Chinese right now-haven’t had time to continue my fundamental studies from summer, so I cannot really exhibit my skills) and also in biochemistry.

You definitely have the numbers for all those schools; but like other people have said, it’s about “the hook”, but I think by playing up the doctor thing you might be on a roll.
