Chance a transfer student

Hello everyone,

I am a first-year student at a small prestigious liberal arts college, but I am looking to transfer for personal reasons (http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/college-search-selection/1727795-transferring-to-transgender-friendly-college.html). Here is some information about me from high school and college:

High school unweighted GPA: 3.808
Current undergraduate GPA: 3.64 (1st semester, relatively rigorous courseload)
High school class rank: 44/332
AP scores: AP Lit (4), APES (5), AP Psych (5), AP Stats (5), AP Govt. (5) (all in senior year)
I was in the IB program in high school, but did not complete it because I had to switch schools. However, I had good grades in those courses overall.
ACT (composite): 32
SAT (superscore): Reading 800, Math 640, Writing 730
Awards: National Honor Society (2012 and 2013), AP Scholar with Distinction, state honors award (for top 10% of entire state’s graduating class), Commended by National Merit Scholarship Program, Art and Spanish departmental awards, other personal school achievement awards
My extracurriculars mainly consisted of community service and volunteerism, especially with science and environmental organizations. I assisted with the research of several environmental groups in my area and also had a gig teaching young kids about the ecosystems of their area.
The clubs I attended were mostly recreational in nature (chess, art, a loosely structured debate club), but I also contributed to a local chapter of Amnesty International and my high school’s literary magazine.
I am a white person from an economically disadvantaged background (currently fluctuating between lower and lower-middle class). I qualified for merit and financial aid at many of the institutions I was accepted to.

Neuroscience will probably be my ultimate field of study, but I want to combine it with a more writing-oriented field. I think science writing or some kind of editing position would be an excellent career for my interests and skill set.

The first time I did college admissions, the schools I was accepted to included Brandeis, Juniata, Lewis & Clark, Oberlin, U of Portland, and Willamette. I was waitlisted to Emory and Whitman and rejected from Claremont McKenna, Middlebury, Pomona, and Vassar.

The schools I am looking at currently are:

Carleton College
Colorado College
Earlham College
Evergreen State College
Grinnell College
Hampshire College
Macalester College
Middlebury College
Oberlin College
Pomona College
Whitman College

Hampshire is a very likely admit. Hampshire admitted 174/243 transfer applicants according to their last years Common Data Set and you have very good stats. You have a very good shot at Earlham -they admitted 53/106 transfer applicants. Oberlin admitted 63/220 so a lot more difficult to get in, but I think you have a good chance. Not much of a chance to Carleton 6/250 transfer applicants admitted. Middlebury is also a long shot as they take very few transfers.

Thank you for the input, @milkweed. If it matters, I was previously admitted to Oberlin with merit aid.

Also, what is a college’s “Common Data Set” and where can I find it?

Just google it: “college name” Common Data Set

Your college gpa looks good (I don’t have much for you, I’m not in college yet) but I researched milkweed’s stats, which are all correct. Based off of high schools stats I would agree with milkweed.

You have solid stats from high school, and I don’t think your chances should have changed too much since, considering our grades were a little lower in probably more difficult classes. You’ve already gotten into Oberlin; I would guess you could get in again.

Your GPA and act composite are excellent. I would be very surprised if any of those colleges rejected you
