UCD: HIgh Match
UCSB: Match
UCSC: Match
UCSD: Low Reach

hey thanks for chancing me. Your stats are pretty good. To tell you the truth with all of your test scores and gpa I think you should be good for UCSB and UCSC. You have a good shot at UCD as well. UCSD may be a little bit more difficult but keep up the good work. Overall UCSB and UCSC should happen.

cause a lot of people dont know but UCD and UCSD are tied. I have spoken to many of the administrators and both of their ranks are tie. However, UCD is more leniant when it comes to accepting students than UCSD. So remeber both UCD and UCSD are ties when it comes to ranks. If you can get into either one the you are a lucky person. Good luck.

@collegeman18 thanks, that’s reassuring (: yeah I heard that UCSD and UCD have some kind of link in terms of admissions, but I know SD is more of a long shot for me. I’m just kind of concerned about my GPA and lack of AP courses, but hopefully my essays, ECs, and my English/Sociology major will help. If I get into Davis I’ll be thrilled.

UC’s only use your Sophomore and Junior year grades in determining your UC GPA and will not look at your Senior grades. That being said, in doing their holistic reviews they will also look at your essays, test scores and EC’s. If you took a look at the UC Admission Profile link submitted by Shrinkrap, you will see that your GPA is low for all the UC’s you applied. I hope you have some backups beside UCSC. Good Luck
UCSC: High Match
UCD: Low Reach
UCSB: Low Reach
UCSD: Reach

@Gumbymom yeah I know, that’s why I’m a bit worried lol. I hope my ECs, SAT, and essays will help them consider me.

UC Hopeful, this new forum format has me a little confused, so forgive me for responding here. I I am not a fan of “chance me” threads, but I sometimes respond to UC “chance me” threads, because the UC’s share their admit rates. If you look at my admission profile link, then click on the pdf file, you can see what the admit rate is for various stats.

I must say it scares me a little to know that a Senior in a California high school does not know how to calculate a UC GPA. Maybe I misunderstood. I have learned so much here, I guess I take too much for granted.

So for most UC’s, only Sophmore and Junior grades count, only UC approved honors (there is a website to check) and AP’s are weighted. Some schools are more “holistic” than others; some have a pretty transparent set of points for various things. At least they used to. Some might have moved away from this, but a few years ago UCSB gave points for an upward trend of 1 point in your gpa between sophomore and junior year.

Did you apply to CSU’s? Maybe the one in your local service area? Some CSU’s can be harder than some UC’s, mostly because of campus wide and major impaction. Where you live can give you an advantage at some CSU’s. I’m sure you have been to the CSU Mentor site, but here is a link to some impaction info.

http://www.calstate.edu/sas/impaction-campus-info.shtml

@Shrinkrap I’ll keep that in mind (:

anyone else willing to chance me? :D

UCD, UCSB: High Match
UCSC: Match
UCSD: Low Reach

In all honesty man it is all a gamble. UCh0peful all UC’s are like a gamble. Back when I was in high school I knew people who had 4.4 GPA’s that got rejected from UCLA and the one that suprised me the most was that there was a guy who had no EC activities and a 2.9 GPA, you hear me a 2.9 GPA! that does not even qualify because UC require at least a 3.0, but guess what he got accepted. Truly man it is all a gamble. For UCD, UCSC, and UCSD you are good but from UCLA and up it is a gamble.

@collegeman18 yeah I agree, sometimes it’s just so unpredictable. How about UCSB? do you think I’m good for that school? :)

yes. UCSB UCD you are good.

but dont worry too much now it is just a waiting game. Worst case scenario you go to community college and kick ass and start with a new gpa and get a 3.7-4.0 and then you can get into any college. You should be find. I think one of them will happen.

@collegeman18 thanks so much! That makes me happy haha (:

i beleive your chances for most UC’s are good especially for UCSB. Your SAT score is well above what is needed

Honestly, UCSD and UCD are High Matches/low reach. Everything else is a match.
Chance me back!

UC GPA is strictly based on sophomore and junior year grades that you received on a-g courses. They’ll look at the classes that you’ll be taking your senior year to make sure your not slacking off but since they don’t receive transcripts until you are actually accepted they won’t care about the fact that you improved your senior year simply because they won’t be able to see that. If your UC GPA dips under a 3.3 then UCSC will be a low reach.

@OneBadGuanaco yeah I understand that, but I’m pretty sure they take everything else into account especially if there’s an upward trend haha :)

I think you should have no problem getting in to UCD and UCSC, but UCSB and UCSD are bit of a reach (UCSD especially). Don’t worry though! Those are all amazing schools. UCSC is BEAUTIFUL!

@lomalamb thank you so much! :D
