Hi, im an international applicant who just moved to the US an year ago from Indonesia. I listed "Economics and Mathematics" as my major on the common app supplement, and I've heard that most internationals apply to comp. sci/engineering...so hopefully that might work to my advantage

Possible Hook ? : International student, , lived in 3 different countries, India, Indonesia, and USA...wrote about this in my essay...I guess I played the diversity card well, hope that helps...emphasized international upbringing in the essay amd why diversity matters to me etc....

oh and btw, before moving to the US, in the first semester of my Junior year, I took 6 IB Classes- Math, Phys, Chem, Econ all Higher Level, and English and Hindi Standard level, i got A in all of them

quag mire: I can sympathize with your anxiety but to be frank, all you're looking for is confirmation -- but it would all really be saccharine. You're a viable candidate, IMHO. But so are most who apply. The reality is much of the ultra selectives like Y -- there is very little to predict. Said often, it's a crapshoot.

Since you're only a few weeks away, please try not to obsess over things you can't control. Enjoy school, enjoy family time. Enjoy this summer. Based on your academic achievement to date, I find it hard to imagine you'll have anything less than a stellar collegiate career, whichever school you eventually attend.

Really. Believe me. Now go away and leave CC for a long while OK? It will keep you happier and calmer.

well, i got 7 in Phys, Chem, Math, and Econ HL, and i got 6 in SL Hindi and SL English...when i moved to US, the school considered them to be all As, so thats what my american transcript shows

"oh and btw, before moving to the US, in the first semester of my Junior year, I took 6 IB Classes- Math, Phys, Chem, Econ all Higher Level, and English and Hindi Standard level, i got A in all of them"

he's right...A is 6 and 7, and then it goes on to B and C proportionately..

I know, in a way it is, but not really. When I talked to an admission officer at Harvard, she told me that they accept from 42+ points. Yale will probably be the same. With a 6 in each subject (6*6=36) and even with 3 bonus points (39), one would be significantly below that limit, so I think in a way a 6 is regarded as slightly worse than an A.

hey debate addict, i read on a different thread that you were accepted early to Yale and you have access to this admitted student website...also, some other person accepted at Yale was saying that there were no applicants from either India or Indonesia accepted early, and that there was just 1 indonesian enrolled...do you think that might give me some sort of advantage in the RD round cuz there are very few kids who lived in Indonesia who are enrolled?

err, it heavily depends on the amount of admissions in each region per year..for instance, I know that Yale has never accepted more than 7 per year...I don't know the Indian or Indonesian acceptance rates, so who knows...one thing I can tell you is that your friend who told you that there was nobody accepted early from India or Indonesia is wrong..there is one accepted student from India and Indonesia...that, I know..
