Chance an Australian! pt 2

Hi guys, I did a chance thread last year but now that I have my SAT scores and a revised list of colleges. I'm an Australian student whose just started his senior year and will be applying for college entrance in the fall of 2014. I'm a filmmaker so will hopefully be doing film but I also want to explore the humanities and other academics to enrich my viewpoints on the world.

Applying (intended): Brown, Chapman, Columbia, Emerson, Harvard, Hofstra, LMU, NYU, UCLA, UCSB, USC, Yale

GPA
My country doesn't even work on a 4 point grading system but if it did, my grades would be very high.

Courses:
Highest level Maths, highest level English, highest level Literature, highest level Chemistry, Highest level Modern History

SAT: 2380
SAT II: Haven't done them yet

Recs: They will be excellent. I have a number of really good relationships with my teachers, especially my English teachers who love me because I'm pretty much the only one who cares for the subject, as well a large number of teachers who I have done video productions for.

ECs: school news show (founder and producer), started own film production company (have won awards nationally for short films), produce school promotional videos, school fundraising club (founder and president), young ambassador for an international arts festival, have created and coded several websites,

Also 200 hours of community service, mainly from volunteering at State Library and local markets

Essays: My Lit teacher is actually an American who used to help kids with college apps and says that I'm a great writer and should do excellently

So what do you guys think? Which schools do I have a good chance of getting into? Should I be looking at more safeties?

Thank you!

Brown: Reach
Chapman: Safety
Columbia: Reach
Emerson: Low match
Harvard: Reach
Hofstra: Safety
LMU: Safety
USC (film): Reach (USC film-making is a reach for anyone; might change according to your film portfolio)
USC (non-film): Match
Yale: Reach
NYU: Low match (this is assuming CAS; Tisch, as with USC Annenberg, is portfolio-heavy)
UCLA: Match
UCSB: Safety

Is U Queensland, U Sydney, UNSW, U Melbourne, Monash or ANU so weak in film that you wouldn’t consider any one of them as a safety at home?

Catria, the nation in general is very very weak for film. The film industry is non-existent. We literally make something like 5 films a year. All the universities you mentioned are very good institutions but do not offer any noteworthy film classes. Australia is just not an entertainment nation, so our universities don’t bother even training filmmakers. Not to mention that attaining an internship or expanding your connections and network is simple impossible here.

The chances I gave you were assuming you went to a given university for humanities. Of course, for film, portfolio is a factor every time, and chances may vary.

And I knew Go8 schools were the best Australian universities, and that I was confident that you could attend one if you realized humanities were more of your thing than film-making after all; I didn’t bother with the last two (U Western Australia and U Adelaide) because they didn’t look like film schools to me.

Yeh I would definitely continue doing humanities alongside filmmaking and even if I didn’t get into film programs but got into other programs in the US, I’d still take it over Australia. Literally there are no opportunities in Australia. The Go8 universities are so easy to get into for the average college confidential student (Its all based on grades, they dont look at essays/ecs). And as I said, none of them actually have decent film programs.

Then, good luck for USC film (which I assume must be near the top of your list of dream schools)…
