Chance an Average Applicant :]

Hi everyone! Thanks for opening!

Here's my list:
Amherst (Early Decision)
Brown
Williams
Holy Cross
Middlebury
Skidmore
Providence
Bowdoin
Colby

White female
Average public school in Massachusetts

ACT: 30, then a 31 (English: 34 Math: 27 Reading: 32 Science: 29)
SAT: 1930 both times, retaking this weekend (Math: 590/600, Critical Reading: 660/640, Writing: 680/690)

All honors/AP classes when available. I took French and Spanish each for four years in high school, and I took the initiative to take AP Spanish on Virtual High School because it is not offered at my school.

Tests so far:
AP U.S. History: 4
English Language: 5

Most important activities:
Class Treasurer
President of National Honor Society
Student Council
Academic Decathlon
I danced for 15 years (I don't anymore)

Volunteer work (I have enough to make it look decent):
Key Club
Soup Kitchen
MSPCA volunteer (local animal shelter)

I had a job for one summer between sophomore and junior years. Looking for another.

Various awards for excelling in foreign language, various nominations for awards, etc. Too boring to list.

Recommendations should be excellent (one from my AP English teacher, who is a Ph.D, one from my class advisor, and Amherst alum who knows me very well).

Essays should be good.

I think that's about it. For a fuller profile, click on my username, then "View Public Profile" and then click on the link under "My Biography."

Are these reaches, matches, or safeties (yeah, right, haha)?
Thanks!

I forgot to mention that I'm the editor of the yearbook.

avg attack and defense
maybe if you use some scrolls youll get a better price for that

After looking at your more descriptive profile, I saw that your GPA is very good and you seem to have strong EC's and awards. Your SAT score is a little low for some of the schools you are looking at (but your ACT score is good!), but I think your strong GPA and EC's can counterbalance that. Still I'd have to say:
Amherst - reach
Brown - high reach
Williams - reach
Holy Cross - match
Middlebury - reach
Skidmore - match
Providence - low match
Bowdoin - reach
Colby - high match

This is just from what I know of these schools. I recommend adding some less selective schools to your list, schools that you will have a really good chance of getting into. I do think you should still try for these reach schools because you have such strong EC's...you'd be a good candidate for any of these schools, I just have to call them reaches because I have heard so many stories of their selectivity, that really, they are reaches for everyone.

You Are Not Average! Average is a 1500 SAT score and 3's on AP tests.

Thanks for the replies so far! I just don't understand yours, unholy_ender, so maybe I'm missing something.

Thank you, passportinhand. I agree that a lot of these are reaches for everyone. It's kind of luck of the draw, but I agree with what you said. I'm in the process of finding one true safety.

EmekChris, thank you. Sometimes I feel average when I come on this website because it seems like most of the posters have near-perfect SAT scores, have written a novel, and discovered a cure for some rare disease. I guess that's just my insecurity.

Thanks, and more comments welcome!

You are a good match for all except for Brown, Amherst, and Williams which are extremely difficult to get into and reaches but still possible. Providence and Skidmore are good safeties for your stats.
