@ greenboy : thanks a lot..i am repenting not applying to Amherst and Williams so much..
@ talha : there are some brilliant colleges out here too for Econ.like the Shri Ram College of Commerce and St.Stephens, Delhi apart from others..so in case things don't turn out fine, I hope to get these..if i would go to USA, it would be to the ones above or Amherst and Williams which ain't possible now..thanks a lot anyways
@ blue_box : my school did it for me

So you got a 100%? Is that even possible in the Indian system?

Ooops :$. I was supposed to write "US should not be the only option..."

vandit_daboss, I can see that you're prepared in case of safeties, and that's great! Shows how realistically you look at this current situation. I really hope you make it to the place you desire.

What I meant was, there are other countries you could try, Canada for once is a great option. Then, there is Australia. A lot of people from India are over there as well, studing in good universities.

@ bluebox : a 4.0 GPA is not exactly 100% as far as I know..it extends from 97-100%. I did score 97-98ish all my exams..

@ talha : thanks a lot,mate..however, I do not intend to apply anywhere else..in fact, after the colleges I have listed above, my top choices are in India itself..getting into those will depend upon my grade 12th final results..but I am praying that I get into at least one of the ten

A 97% in your boards + your 11th exams? Wow. You must be extraordinarily intelligent.

@ bluebox : its not only percentage-wise..it applies to percentiles..i had 100th percentile for all my exams in the last three years..so i invariably got a 4.0 GPA..u can check this link..http://inquiry.princetonreview.com/leadgentemplate/GPApopup.asp..hope it helps..

Ah. I see. My school doesn't give percentiles. -___- I'm gonna face a problem there.

percentiles are pretty easy to calculate..my school ranks us on an all-section basis, i.e., we are ranked out of 245 students..so its very easy to calculate percentiles..you can take a copy of that link to your school counselor and ask him/her to calculate the GPA..the process was pretty simple at least in my school..hope this helps..good luck

I think your application is great. You have a good shot. Good luck! I'm interested to hear about the music, does the band have a MySpace or something? You could PM it to me if you don't want to put it publicly :)

@ portugueseninja : thanks..i am praying that I get into at least one of the ten..we aren't there on MySpace or YouTube because all our videos are those of our concerts and are more than 1 GB in size each..unfortunately,I don't know how to convert them or make them smaller or rip a song out of the concert..anyways am posting my common app.short answer here..you can learn about my band and perhaps critique me too..

In the space provided below, please elaborate on one of your activities (extracurricular, personal activities, or work experience)(150 words or fewer).

"Dream On Dream On Dream On
Dream until your dreams come true."
Every time, I play this song by Aerosmith with my band, NEMESIS, at our live performances, I fall in love all over again with my guitar. The immensely inspiring lyrics and beautifully composed music pervade into my soul arousing in me, a deep sense of ecstasy. The enchanting atmosphere when we play this song in front of a really passionate crowd and the guitar solos and riffs superbly composed by Joe Perry (although I do not play the solo note-to-note, preferring to improvise) make me feel elated. The obstacles we had to face as a band, from being recognized as the youngest professional multilingual rock band, to the time when we gave our blood, toil, tears and sweat to win the Times Youth Rock Festival, define us as we play 'Dream on' at our concerts. After all, Steven Tyler was accurate when he wrote, "You gotta lose to know how to win."

please critique it..i know that my stats aren't too impressive and I am praying that my essays carry me through..

^ you shouldnt post ur essays/answers

okay..but is there any way I can delete my post?

Ask a moderator to do it. Try tokenadult. He/She is pretty active on the forums.

and ur better off....
its only a short answer
and since the application season is almost over if someone does copy it it'll be next year so chill :)

okay..i also think it's fine..but what about the essay? is it decent enough??

bump..please critique the short answer and chance..

The thing any adcom, like me, will be wondering is if your band has achieved such success, why would you leave it for college now? Has your band made money or are you seeking aid?

Are you applying now and has the essay been sent? In all honesty, I don't find it original and think it's cliche filled.

@ hmom5 : its absolutely original.the band has achieved reasonable success but the reason why I am willing to give it up is because the band will be breaking up in the near future.the drummer has applied to the Berklee School of Music and a couple of other members have been admitted to unis in US.We formed our band in grade 8 and knew that we would be together for 5 years till we carved out our careers after school..anyways thanks for your views..

a close friend of mine in Bangalore got his Harvard interview call 2 days back..now,India is not in the list of countries listed on the Harvard College website which specifically says that applicants from other countries apart from the ones listed above won't have interviews unless the admissions committee wants to know more about them..so is the interview call a good sign for him or is it just normal.??

Well, I think it's important to frame your band properly because lets face it, anyone on the verge of becoming Cold Play isn't going to college. They were together as teenagers too. You're talking professional, successful band here. They'd also expect some income shown in that case. Colleges see a lot of exaggeration and it can make you lose credibility if not properly framed.

On the original comment I didn't mean your band, I meant the essay.
