hi,

i'm a sophomore and i live in india. i study under the icse syllabus and will be writing my icse exams next year. i want to study in the US for college and i want to know if i'm on the right track as far as ec's are concerned:

class rank: top 3 students

haven't taken SAT or anything.

extra-curriculars:

school level basketball, throwball, table tennis and soccer
some volunteer work

i want to go to an ivy league college. please tell me what i should do to help my chances.

thank you so much for your time.

Hey I'm an Indian sophomore and I play national level tennis too! Cool! Which state are you from?

Don't ask me about chances though, I'm not qualified AT ALL.

First off, (though no one here is really qualified, a fact you'd better learn sooner rather than later), you're here a bit early. :) (Normally 11th grade is when it's good to start coming to CC regularly).

Advice for you if you're just starting 10th (I've just finished ISC myself) is primarily to study hard, enjoy yourself, take part in activities that you love, and do NOT slack off in 11th grade.

Secondly or rather, primarily, since this is really, really important, don't have the idea that Ivy League = the only good colleges in the US. (I know several people, including myself, who've turned down Ivies for other colleges). Start doing research if you want. Use the US News Site, though don't rely on it, read CC archives, read College Websites, and come up with a list of the colleges that you think fit your abilities and your needs. If you're asking for aid, look into which colleges give aid to Internationals.

Above all, don't worry too much, You're in 10th grade, just starting your board year, you'll have enough to worry about in school, leave worrying about college for a bit later.

Listen to Shrivats. It'll do you good. He's the TiT stalwart.

Ah, well, for now you just sit back and enjoy the boards. Only after that you will be required to get on with your actual talent.
And for that, you will need loads of awareness, which I am sure you can attain through a proper use of internet or college sites. And I guess, just after your boards, you will get loads of time to choose what you want, what you can do, what interests you most and at what you are best....
(Again, for now, enjoy..!!)..

JUst my opinion: I am an India in US planning to switch to CBSE in India after 10th here now. I think you should pursue your ECs seriously and keep up the studied. Btw, take your SATs and SAT IIs and score better than I did lol, and write a good essay- you should be fine for Ivy then.
