Chance an international student from Europe

Even an admissions officer from Harvard would not give admissions info in an online forum.

jjust your feedback on where i seem to match, I know chance me is tough

Chancing students when we have zero visibility to key pieces of your application package (e.g., essays, LoRs, level of need, transcript/relative standing in both your school AND country) aren’t ‘tough’, it’s basically impossible. You know that all these schools are reaches for unhooked students, so there’s not much else posters can add.

It’s great that you have some affordable acceptances already, good luck as the rest roll in.

“Match” in what way? As noted numerous times, in terms of matching for acceptances, your list are all reaches.

If you are asking about match in terms of fit, then we need more information. Do you prefer rural or urban locations, large or small campuses, collaborative vs competitive cultures, is Greek life important, sports (do you want to continue to play tennis), etc
What’s your goal post graduation? Grad school or moving straight to the work force?

MATCH IN FIT WAY. Ooops sorry for capital letters. Might have spent less time removing them, but
anyway. I honeslty do not care about urban/rural, although I have lived all my life in big cities. I am very competitive but idk if a too competitive atmosphere would workl since there is not any competition in my high school. Want to continue plying tennis, but I could still do club? Back to Switzelrnad maybe? Not sure for post grad

My essays were very personal, and not too retouched. I am a very strong writer in my mother tongue but less in English. Nevertheless, most of my friends and adults who reviewed some of my essays very much liked my style and unique story. For my LORS, I have at least two outstanding ones, since both my closes teacher and host family wrote me one (extra rec). My counselor told me that he would do all he can so that I can get into my dream school (harvard). So my letters are probably extremely strong (not any student in my high school applies to the US and the teachers who wrote me recs really want to help me). For my transcripts, we do not have rank but gpa of 3.8 as a senior, which is almost impossible to get in Switzerland (academic achievments that my teachers probably mentioned). at or near top of class although I skipped 1 year and a half of high school. There is no standing in country, but the swiss maturity is known for being one of the extremely difficult curriculums due to its thoroughness and core curriculum

I’m not an AO but I’ll give my limited prediction: you’ll receive acceptances (can’t predict whether the FA piece will line up for you) from URochester, Babson, Conn College and maybe Emory, maybe Oberlin. The rest of your list is too competitive. You may get a little boost since schools often don’t receive as many applications from your country but then get a ding for FA requirement? Just too many factors.

In any event I wish you lots of luck! Please let us know where you land!

Always nice to receive a little encouragement and validation!

When you said too competitive, you mean that my application is not strong enough (I am not taking offense at all; I know that you are a stranger on the internet, so please be harsh) or that the schools are impossible to get into?

I’m going to give some examples of fit because I’m not getting enough from you to help, although at this point, it probably makes more sense to come back when you have all your acceptances.

I have a daughter currently at university. When she was looking at colleges she had some specific criteria. She wanted a school focused on career readiness. She would not compromise about her intended major. She also spent a good amount of time doing a deep dive on each school’s four year plan of study as there were some big differences. She did not want a school with too many out of major requirements. She did not want an urban campus. She wanted a program that was more hands on and collaborative vs theoretical and competitive. She wanted big school spirit. She wanted to continue theater. Not a big Greek presence.

I mean they are insanely competitive to get into for practically everyone who applies to them. Every year thousands of extremely competitive applicants are not selected for admission. Unless you have an almost guaranteed hook such as you’re a recruited athlete, your parents donated (or could donate) enough money to have a building with their name on it, you fulfill a very specific admissions priority, your father is the president of the university , the number of spaces available for RD applicants is small relative to the number of applicants and that’s even more true for International applicants. Many of the schools you’re targeting admit around 50% of their freshman class in the early round (whether or be ED, ED2, REA, SCEA) out of a much smaller applicant pool so the RD round is pretty brutal in terms of acceptance rates.

so where is she now? I am definitely more open regarding where I would like to go!

She’s a chemical engineering student at Purdue. For a business student, I would not recommend Purdue, their strength is in STEM ; )

This interview can be interesting to read for a student intent on Harvard (see, “What is your greatest regret?”):

I’m not attempting to dissuade you from Harvard. Nonetheless, the response to the above question may broaden your perspective as you continue to research U.S. colleges.

@merc81 IIRC, this student has already applied to 70 colleges
I sure hope they are not still doing research on schools. At this point, he or she is in a wait and see mode.
