You have great EC’s, you may just want to bump up your SAT’s and then you’ll prbably be good for an Ivy.

Great work in those ECs! I think retaking the SAT for a 2300+ is a good idea.
I think you have an excellent shot at UCB, UCLA, and GA Tech. I don’t know much about Duke, but Stanford, MIT, Caltech, and the Ivies are basically high reaches for anyone - but I think you have a chance at them. Especially for MIT and Caltech: let your passion for math and science (CS) show in your essays (this is different from listing your accomplishments regarding them).

^ In light of the fact that Duke is more selective than some of the Ivies, it can also be considered a ‘reach for everyone’ :)

@Saxplayer100 I am working hard on essays…matter of fact I’m halfway through writing my essays for MIT(hope they dont change the topic)…thanks for your help!

Thank you @fafablacksheep for your help!

MIT - Reach ( Its a reach for anyone so…)
Stanford - Reach
UCB - Match
UCLA - Match
Caltech - Reach
GA Tech - Match
Duke - Likely (Duke likes international students that are smart)

Overall, if you get your SAT to over 2300 you will be a competitive candidate for all these schools. You’re extracurriculars are jawdropping. Thanks for chancing me btw.

@TheZohan thanks for replying…yes I am trying to improve my SAT score up to a 2300+ and have been practicing on essays too…my top choices are MIT/Harvard.

Thanks by the way!

In my opinion, you should leave the SAT alone. Your weakness is in writing, and 1) most schools could care less about your writing score (they’re going to see 1530 and say okay), and 2) the schools will see that you’re an international and chalk up the writing score (and to some extent the CR score) to that.

@jkeil911 Thanks for your reply!

MIT- reach
Stanford- high reach
UCB-match
UCLA-match
Caltech-reach
GA Tech-match
Duke-match
Chance me back? MIT,Stanford,UCB,UCLA,Caltech,GA Tech,Duke

You’re a really competitive student. You’re bound to be accepted anywhere with a 2300 SAT. Your ECs are great, especially being the An ISEF winner. Caltech or MIT are good choices for you. Although ED won’t do much, it’s worth a try for either of the colleges.
Good luck!
Please chance back http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1672761-chance-me-for-stanford-university.html

@Dream0n I am an international so I cannot apply to MIT early(top choice) I will be applying to Harvard REA.

You are a solid candidate for most of the semi-competitives. Boost your SAT for MIT and Cal Tech. Good luck.

I know I’m being greedy but chance both threads back?

Chance me back?

Chance my friend back please?

thanks for chancing! i think you are a competitive candidate, but maybe look more at the UCs? places like Berkley seem like they’d be your best fit

@nsoods Thanks for chancing. I did visit UCB but it was a bit large for me. I really liked it at MIT.

@humblefool I think that you are a really qualified candidate! Your scores are good and the fact that you are an international student COULD help… not really sure if it will help at all of these schools… I think that your ECs are good, but it’s hard to tell what is good enough to gain admissions. Retake the SAT, and hope for the best!!

@LazyBonez Thanks for answering and yes, I am retaking the SAT

You have great stats! The only issue I see is your 9th grade GPA, which most schools ignore anyway, so you should be fine. UCB, GTech, and UCLA should be no problem for you at all. MIT, stanford and Caltech are honestly crap shoots for everyone so no way to tell, but like everyone said make sure essays are good

If you get a 2300 next time. It would help too.

Good luck

Are you an Asian from Asia, or do you live in another country (UK, Australia, etc)? This will make a difference as to how your application is viewed.

As others have posted, the number of applicants from China alone has overwhelmed most schools over the last few years. You will be basically compared to the students applying from the same country. if you are from Nepal, Bhutan, Vietnam or other smaller Asian countries then you stand an EXCELLENT chance.

you should be good for most of your schools because you have a balanced resume. And the coding is a unique aspect. you should also check out UTAustin.

Wow! Your EC’s and your scores look great. Just in case, I would consider taking another SAT 2 subject test! If you’re confident in ANY of the more humanities-side subjects, a balance of different SAT 2 subjects looks incredibly impressive, especially for an international student interested in math/computer science. Other than that, you have a great chance of getting into at least a couple of these schools. Thanks for chancing me btw
