I’m not exactly sure how the athletic recruiting works, but I hear there is a decent amount of pull from the coaches depending on your level and sport. Obviously, nothing is guaranteed. Also, what are good backup plans in case things don’t work out? I’ve done a lot of research already but I would like some advice. Please be helpful. I know sometimes chance-me threads can be just as inaccurate as the polls for the elections.
We’ve had 2 athletes from our school get into MIT (1 male and 1 female same year) they both said they were top choices of their coaches. They both had similar stats to you that were very solid but not tip top. I think your chances are good if the coach was truthful.
MIT’s coaches express their “wish list of athletic applicants” to the admissions office, then it’s largely
out of their hands. Many have said the adcoms view a recommendation like that as any other strong EC.
MIT adcoms will still look at you to see if you are a good match for MIT. For example, they will
consider if you broke your wrist the first week of school, would they still have admitted you.
Definitely do apply. But because getting in is so competitive, always be sure your “plan b” school
applications are in top shape.

Thanks for the advice! Yeah these admissions are so competitive that it’s never an exact science. I’m working on my plan B’s as well. A lot of other schools would like to recruit me if MIT doesn’t work out, so that definitely helps. But we’ll see how everything goes.
I am willing to join in mit. I am an average student and I am pursuing my undergraduate in physics in a college in Coimbatore. Will I get a chance to join in mit next year as a fresher.please help me
