Chance for dartmouth and amherst

Location: competitive private in New England
Rank: school doesn't rank
GPA: 4.0 out of 4.3
SAT: 2320 one sitting
SAT IIs: Chemistry 760, just wrote French and Spanish. Probably a 780 on Spanish but something very unflattering (think mid high 600s) for French because I rushed through the reading questions because I came late, long story. Definitely retaking it in November or December with listening.

Classes: most rigorous curriculum, all APs offered
AP Exams: Chemistry 5, Spanish 4

Extra-curriculars:
Yearbook layout editor (2 years)
Basketball (1 year, alas I am only an alternate).
School Publicity Committee (4 years): People, clubs, organizations send us information about school events or whatever they want on the posters, and our committee divides up the work. We essentially create every single poster/advertisement that's ever been put up at school
Language publication editor (1 year)

Awards
DELF B1 (French language certifications), 1 national math award, school awards for excellency in foreign languages, placed in a couple of regional language contests, won a scholarship to study in Spain for three weeks.

Summers
Worked pro bono for a small company (did their flyers, ads, etc), got one college credit in nanoengineering at Penn

Recommendations:
Top-notch. My French teacher raved about my talent and dedication, my Physics teacher wrote something about how even though I'm not strong in Physics she really admires how hard I push myself in the classroom. Guidance counselor's is unfortunately as commonplace as you can find.

Essays:
Decent, not unique, but I feel that it's very me.

QUESTION:
I really don't know what I'm going to do with my future, which explains why my interests are all over the place i.e. foreign languages, art, random science engineering course... is this going to hurt me? I'm applying to Dartmouth and Amherst because they're relatively small colleges where I could probably explore whatever the heck I want.

I'm lacking in ECs but I hope my awards and SAT scores (besides French...) will make up for it ... what do you think?

Please criticize away (:

Hmm, no real focus on the EC’s, as you said, but I’d still say that you have a decent shot if your essays are great. Your test scores are fantastic, so I’d say you have a decent shot. :)

Thanks very much! Do you think I’d have a significantly greater chance if I ED’d, or would it not give me much of a boost with these types of credentials?

Bump (:
I’ll chance you back!

ED would definitely help.

If you do ED at either I’d say you have a great shot.

RD I’d say Dartmouth is a low reach and Amherst is slightly lower.

What was the national math award? Why not take Math 2?

Reach for Dartmouth. ED would boost your chances quite a bit. Amherst around a high match.

you have an EXCELLENT shot for dartmouth. if i get accepted there, it would be a pleasure hanging out with you :)

AMC 10 top 5%/AIME qualifier. I guess it might be more of a distinction than an award, but I would like to mention it somewhere.

Math II has always been my back-up, but with my French score (ugh) I’ll have to take it in December. Thank you for your input!

I’m pretty sure good essays came make up for your EC’s. If you apply ED I think you would have a great shot! Good Luck!
