Hi there finally posting on CC now that applications are done and I have from now until March to freak out. I was wondering if anyone can partially chance me in a general sense. I am applying to Hotchkiss, Deerfield, Andover, Exeter, Taft, Choate, Emma Willard, Miss Porter’s, Hill, and NMH for my junior year (current sophmore). I know it is harder to get into bs as a junior however I am not an international student, am full pay, and despite the username am from NC which is not a popular state for bs applicants (all things which I have heard help.) I also have great grades, extracurriculars, and high test scores, and feel good about interviews. I guess my biggest question is what are the odds for someone applying as a junior - do they actually have spots open for juniors?
Hello! Judging by your post, I’d say you’re pretty good, but can you please specify some ECs? Also, I don’t know how you wrote your essays but they’re a huge part of the application. Hopefully you didn’t write them in an academic and formal manner. Make sure you portrayed the best you!
Hi thank you for the reply! I really enjoy writing and consider it one of my academic strong suits so I feel confident about my essays. I have received positive feedback from those who have read them so I am not too worried about them.
For ECs:
Homeroom Rep for student gov - 9th grade
Secretary student gov - 10th grade
Member of special needs activist club (SNAP) - 2 years
Member of Spanish club - 2 years
Write for school newspaper - 2 years
Volleyball - since 6th grade (varsity since 9th grade, 8th grade was captain)
Swimming - since 2nd grade (varsity since 9th grade, 8th grade captain)
Theater - started in 1st grade, have large list of roles both lead and supporting
Volunteer in church nursery - since 7th grade
Volunteer at food pantry - 2 years
Volunteer tutor at local elementary school - 3 years
Wow ok. Very strong applicant. Wow. Just wow.
Thank you lol. I’m definitely pretty involved with ECs which is a huge reason why I want to go to bs because I feel like there is so much to do and be involved in. I just love getting out and doing things hence the ECs. I also feel like I need all these ECs especially applying for junior year and my schools are not super high acceptance.
