Hi All,
Currently I am applying to graduate journalism programs at Columbia, Northwestern, NYU, CUNY, Boston U, U. of Missouri, U. of Colorado, and Stanford. I am curious about my chances at getting into these programs.
Details are as follows:
-Undergraduate institution: UC Berkeley
-Degree/Major: B.A., English
-GPA: 3.9
-Honors/Awards: Dean’s Honors, Phi Theta Kappa, Student Volunteer Award
-GRE: 150q (39%, yikes!), 157v (75%), 5.5 analytical writing (98%)
-Experience/Work/Extracurricular: I have always had at least one part-time job while studying since I’ve been 16. Unfortunately, no journalism internships, but I have served as an Academic Editor for a literary journal published at Berkeley for two years. As well, I have written freelance articles that have been published by a few regional publications. Leadership positions include serving as Legal Director for UC Berkeley Model UN, creating and facilitating a one-unit class on drug policy in California, and being a Board Member of a local nonprofit organization’s student leadership organization (YWCA).
-Rec. Letters: Two from Professors at Berkeley who know me well, one from the Executive Director at a nonprofit (my former supervisor)
-Strong personal essays
For what it’s worth, does anyone have any insight into my chances at getting into these programs? My top choices are NYU, CUNY and Columbia.
Thanks!
