Chance for me transfer to GS?

Hey guys,

I'm an frosh, studying at a TOP40 Liberal and Art College and I want to apply for 2014 fall transfer to GS.

I took GaoKao (university entrance examination in China) last year, got a good scores and had been admitted by my first choice (a TOP3 university of Finance and Economics in China), but I decided to give up the offer and try to study in a totally different education system.

My parents are both professors at a TOP30 university in China. Since I was still a kid, they began to tell me the problem of China's education system. Actually, my life goal is to set up the best private university in China. My ambition in education make me decide to give up the good offer from Chinese university and try to explore the best education in the world.

During my gap year, I have done a lot of research about Chinese Education System and written down several research papers. Besides, I have set up a website about US universities and colleges. Moreover, I have made several speeches about education and dream in my high school and set up a study group teaching US History and Economics to chinese high school students.

I may not be a typical GS student: I'm not 29 years old; I don't have working experience; I haven't served for army in my country. I apply for GS partly because of its high acceptance rate.

I'm able to get 3.8+ GPA this year, I have already gotten 2200+ SAT scores plus two 800 SAT subject tests. I really want to get into GS and become a part of Columbia University, but again, I'm not a typical GS student. Although the acceptance rate of GS is 50% for transfer, I really don't know whether my ordinary life experience would hinder my chance to get in.

Call the admissions office and talk to them. At a glance, I think they’d probably prefer someone with a more diverse background, but perhaps your story about wanting to study in the uniquely GS educational program will be compelling.

I wouldn’t put any significance on the acceptance rate numbers you find around the web. Literally none that I’ve seen seem accurate or based on real fact. Plus, GS has no concept of a transfer student - it just has students.

Good luck!

Not many applicants to GS can say that they felt like a typical GS student. In that sense, you’d fit right in. To add to that, I’d agree with campaigner. No admissions statistics are made public. So, all of what you’ve heard or read must be conjecture.
