Chance for Millbrook School and NMH?

Hi everyone!
I'm going to be applying to Millbrook School and Northfield Mount Hermon this fall for entry into the 11th grade. I understand that slots are scarce when applying halfway through high school and would like to know if anyone could tell me my chances. I would like to have fairly realistic expectations so give me your honest opinion (even if it may sting). :p

btw, I'm in the pre-International Baccalaureate program. That's what "Pre-IB" stands for.

Thanks ahead of time for your inputs and if you know of any other schools that I may be well suited for, let me know. :)

Hi,
I am not familiar with the schools that you are applying to but they have a 45 percent acceptance rate and a 60 percent acceptance rate, so I would suggest thinking of a “hook” or something that makes you different and I think you have a pretty good chance.

Thank you!
Would you consider the fact that I plan to take part in soccer, softball, and swimming(if its offered) at these schools could be a hook?

That is great! Are you good? And also do you have any awards you have won in any of them? or matter in fact… awards in any subject? and (chance me. I would appreciate it)

Yes, I’m pretty average in soccer (being mid-field and all).
In softball, we won the city championships which was pretty awesome.
In swimming, I’m average. We were 5th in districts (which is pretty good in my area).

I’ve gotten several academic awards throughout middle school and in ninth grade (president’s award, excellence in English, excellence in Math, honor roll, things like that).

I am a current NMH student and academically you seem set for the transfer to a boarding school. At NMH we pride ourselves on being real people. What makes you different? Is there something different/interesting about you? Do you volunteer? DM or email me if you have any questions about NMH!

Bump anyone? :)

Oh & also, I am submitting my PSAT scores. Is my score of a 1790 going to hurt my chances of getting in? Thanks in advance. :)

Just for future readers of this thread, Starjazzy’s statement of Millbrook and NMH having acceptance rates of 45% and 60% is WRONG. Well, 45% is accurate for Millbrook if boardingschoolreview.com is accurate (couldn’t find anything on Millbrook’s website), but NMH’s website gives an acceptance rate of 29%. NMH also has a relatively high yield (meaning a high percentage of admitted applicants actually choose to go there).

As far as “chancing,” sorry, I don’t go there. No one on these forums can really chance you. You are more than what you can put down on paper. That’s why schools weigh interviews, recommendations, etc.

Every applicant can get a feel for whether they’re in the ballpark by learning everything there is to know about a school, its students, its alumni, and its applicants. I recommend that every applicant to prep school include a school that is a reach and a school that is a shoo-in (beware–my children have each experienced not being accepted at their “safety” although they ended up with very good placement elsewhere).
