CHANCE ME FOR: BU, Uconn, UNC CH

I was looking at applying to UVA, Georgetown (REACH), Wake Forest, Syracuse but my dream school is WUSTL, but i know im not on track for it.

What i look for:
Honestly? I want one of the best programs I can get into. I know applications can be a crap shoot but Im worried (screw anxiety).

Congratulations on your hard work and success!

In general, I’d say it’s a matter of how you tie together your high school/college experience. That will go al long way in determining how schools look at your record. Be positive (always), don’t make excuses for high school. Emphasize your success in college-level classes and how you have taken advantage of opportunities. How have your college classes shaped your thinking about your studies and ambitions going forward. Emphasizing your resilience is a good idea. That is perhaps the biggest key to success in college, and admissions officers know that.

Have you visited Wake Forest and WUSTL? Both schools place an emphasis in “interest,” and want to know students have visited and fallen in love with the school. Wake does have a terrific new biotech center (Wake Downtown) in downtown Winston-Salem. Wake is test optional (legitimately) and places a big emphasis on grades, but WUSTL really focuses on numbers. I think its 25/75 ACT range is 32-34 or 33-35. So that will be tough. Georgetown has really seen a surge in applications in recent years and has a very low, single-digit RD acceptance rate. UVA has also seen a surge in OOS applications–it’s EA so top students can apply one place ED and then apply to UVA, UNC, Ga. Tech, and Michigan EA (and they do)–and as a result the OOS acceptance rate is down, although I don’t know how they’ll evaluate your college grades.

I’m not saying your shouldn’t apply or that you couldn’t succeed at these schools–many students who are not accepted could succeed at them–just that the admissions numbers are very daunting.

Some schools that come to mind for you: Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI), Denison, Creighton, and Miami of Ohio.

We love WPI–very hands-on, project-oriented curriculum, which you may or may not like. Nice campus in a nice area in Worcester. Great student vibe. It has gotten much more competitive in recent years.

Denison seems like a match. Also nice campus, strong academics, you’d have to check for your specific interests. It is near Columbus, which has a lot of healthcare companies, I think.

Creighton seems mid-size and urban like some of the other schools on your list. It has a nice campus right adjacent to downtown Omaha (though a highway cuts right between them), which is a surprisingly vibrant city (was there this summer). It’s a high-quality mid-size university, which seems to be doing very well. Like Georgetown, it is a Catholic school.

You’d be in line for at least some merit aid at Miami of Ohio. I’d think they would have your programs (you can check), and it seems like you could definitely go to med school from there.

Another one is Santa Clara University–in Silicon Valley, has your programs, beautiful campus, can’t beat the weather. Also more competitive these days. Like some of the others, it might be expensive for you though. You can run net price calculator (NPC) for yourself.

Good luck!

I agree that Denison might make a good match for you. If you would like reach schools, one or more NESCACs might be appropriate.
