Essays / Recs are good

Wanted majors...(i still cant decide! and im thinking of pre-med maybe too?)
chemical engineering or microbiology or business

only if you want to …
…as well what other colleges do you think i could get into? which other ones do you think i match?

I’d give you a pretty good shot at getting in, the fact that you applied to intern at a pharm company means nothing unless you get in and work there (in which case let admissions know).

the UC’s look at fully weighted GPA 10-11, and the capped GPA, so freshmen year doesnt count. ACT looks really good. What major are you applying as and are a you a california resident? Regardless I think you have a good shot. A 4.18 weighted is a bit on the low side for LA. chance back! and good luck!

if u read all of it you would know that i live in NJ so i am out of state…but i can pay for the tuition of out of state which i heard can boost my chance…
im majoring in chemical engineering or micro biology or both
but i may do a pre-med… im not totally sure
as well my sibling goes to ucla right now… does that help me out??
thanks for the replies

Neither your sibling nor your ethnicity will do anything. Even if Lebanese were considered a minority, that would not help unless you incorporated it into your essay or if you are from a low-income area.

Looks good though. Can’t say for sure but my (probably faulty) calculation of your weighted GPA seems good too.

My question is, how could you possibly chance back if you don’t even go here? What do you even know about UCLA admissions (heck… what do the rest of us even know about UCLA admissions… but that’s a different debate entirely).

you say “even if Lebanese were considered a minority” … are you implying that it isnt considered minority? im not trying to sound sassy or anything, i just have heard otherwise so im just asking

and im just gonna adress ur question cuz u seem to have an attitude about it for some reason… but then again we’re speaking through text so i may have misunderstood the tone of your voice

even though i dont go to UCLA i still know about it and what they look for… like ive been to tours and orientations before. ive seen stats of average things and such , how they admit others but i mean no one is ever 100% sure of what they will say…
even though i dont go there i still have an idea of some sort of chance you or anyone else has. (im assuming you dont go to it because im too lazy to check if u do… if theres even a way to check). people have a sense of what they look for in general from sources. … how are you even chancing me right now if u dont go? (i assume again). … im sure theres probably 1 student enrolling in ucla who may know less about their admissions than just an applicant

In the context of college admissions, “minority” means “underrepresented minority”, which is in turn influenced by the perception of which ethnic groups have undergone institutionalized hardships. That’s why asian is not considered a minority in college admissions. They make up only about 5% of the US population, but they seem to be doing fine economically. You hear a lot of noise about the institutionalized hardships of blacks, hispanics, and native americans, not so much about arabs. This doesn’t mean that arabs haven’t undergone historical economic hardship and repression, only that people don’t really tend to focus on it too much. But regardless, it doesn’t matter since race itself is not directly an admissions factor at UCLA. That’s against the law in fact.

I do go to UCLA. And I actually have access to some information regarding admissions that other people do not (though I won’t say how). Obviously though, I still know much less about the admissions process than the admissions department itself.

I completely understand why anyone would want to be chanced, to get peace of mind. But even when current UCLA students do respond, you’ll often see them arguing or disagreeing, because, really, it’s all just guessing. So when UCLA students can’t even agree on a case, how can a non-student, who has not had the opportunity to learn of a wide array of admits with a wide array of statistics and all those special cases that UCLA is chock full of, possibly be able to make an informed guess? UCLA does not use a points system. Statistics and averages are but one part of the holistic system.

I have absolutely no problem with you chancing other people. It just makes no sense to me.
