Chance me and opinions on race questions

Hello I am a 13 year old 8th grader in a southern california public middle school. I have been in the advanced classes in my school district since the 3rd grade. My week is consumed with the following activities and interests. School and after school swim team monday through friday. Wednesday night and saturday day, I have classes for math competition, AMC 10 etc. On sunday I attend Chinese school for 3 hours every week. In terms of EC I worked at the local library this summer and as an assistant instructor for the local junior lifeguard program. I am a member of a local scuba diving club. I am the oldest of 4 children in a very loud house.

I am interested in attending a boarding school and would like to know which schools may be a fit. My grades are above 3.5 gpa on a 4.0 scale. I have always tested well on standardized tests. My strengths are math and science, but I love to read and perform adequately in verbal and reading.

My first ssat scores are as follows:
Verbal 761 SSAT Percentile 94%
Math 800 SSAT Percentile 99%
Reading 761 SSAT Percentile 99%
Total 2322 SSAT Percentile 99%

I have visited Milton Academy and had an interview with the admissions office. I have not been to any other schools and will most likely be needing a full or partial scholarship, as my parents are in a financial fiasco at this time.

Regarding race, I am 1/2 Chinese and 1/2 White. Do I have a better chance listing my race at white as it seems most Asians are expected to be overachievers? My white father thinks being Chinese may be a handicap for admissions, in California it certainly is.

Thanks for any help anyone cares to offer. I need to start applying soon.

yeah just list yourself as white and your grades and scores are superb you could get in anywhere and they will give u a scholarship trust me

There is a space for “other” or “mixed” on applications. It might keep your application from being immediately placed in the “overachieving Asian” pile (…if there is such a thing. lol )

excellent…why don’t you apply for exeter or these kind of top school? well, i think a would get scholarship anywhere ,.there is no need to write yourself as a chinese.

I have received news that I scored 19 of 25 on the AMC 8, but don’t know what percentile that puts me in. I will be applying to HADES and am finishing up my essays. With my 99% overall on the SSAT and this AMC result have my chances improved? I will only be able to attend with a scholarship. Unfortunately, I am not a straight A student, probably somewhere around 3.5 GPA.

I discovered this forum and these schools recently and am located in California. I have a winter break starting December 18th, will the HADES schools be open during this break? I am trying to miss as little school as possible, but will take off early if I need to. Is renting a car and driving to these schools a viable option, if we fly into boston or another nearby airport? We are used to driving up to 11 hours for skiing, so couple of hundred miles should not phase us.

Thank you for your help.
