Wootton's a good school. You go to the BBYO conventions? A lot of people here are pretty active in all that.

Anyway, your EC's are spectacular to say the least. Are you looking to do sports management?

I'm a little confused by the writing score (not that it matters)--It seems like you have some good experience, so I'm a bit surprised that you didnt do better (I got a 600 and I'm a very average writer).

My best advice would be to study pretty hard and retake the SATs. an 1100 is certainly manageable.

Also, if you arent doing SM, the UMBC-->UMD-CP transfer is very common and not too difficult to achieve. (unless you dont like/want to go to UMD)

WHAT are my chances at Scripps?

Considering it's a women's school, you have a better shot at being abducted by Aliens.

No lol

The Scripps school of journalism! It is a top school at OU

oh haha. I believe that's their most selective school, so I would assume it's difficult.

Anyone else besides loslobos71 (No offense ll lol)

We visited OU a couple of weeks ago and talked to a professor in the Scripps school of journalism, and also had a tour of Scripps. It is their most selective school, with the average CR + math SAT score in 2007 being 1250, ACT of 27, and students in the top 13% of their HS class. There are approximately 250-270 journalism students. You can be directly admitted to Scripps, and start taking journalism courses right away. You would have an advisor in the J-school that you must meet with regularly in order to register for your classes. They require internships, and the advisor helps find the internships. 32 hours must be in arts & sciences other than journalism (they refer to it as a specialization - it does not have to be a separate minor). Each year, $250,000 in scholarships are given away to upper classman in the journalism school! 5-9 foreign correspondant internships for seniors are given (full-ride) every year. There are lots of opportunities in newspaper, magazine, TV station, and the NPR-affiliate radio station.

It seems like a really wonderful place!

Scout, I think you would want to concentrate on raising your SAT score in order to be a competitive candidate. What is your class rank?

oreg. mom,

Do you think I have a shot at being admitted in general?

I PMd you.

One thing I would suggest is to call or email them. Everyone we talked to at OU was REALLY nice and helpful. Ask them what your shot would be, and how to improve your scores if they don't feel that they are high enough. You sure have great ECs!!!

Thanks! Char

anyone else?

You need at least a 25 on ACT to be considered. If you have not taken the ACT, do it! It could make a big difference. Good luck!

How about with regular undergrad?

Anyone else?

If it makes a difference...

I just received my transcript in the mail today...

3.40 Unweighted
3.72 Weighted

First, I'd recommend that you take the ACT, since the ACT a) seems to be the preferred standardized test at OU, and b) a lot of people who don't do very impressively on the SAT do significantly better on the ACT.

That being said, as it stands now I'd say you've got a very decent chance of being admitted into the general University College; as for Scripps, I really think you need to bring up your test scores, though your GPA and EC's look pretty good. I'd be sure to include an essay explaining your love for journalism (you're going for journalism, right?) and detailing your related experiences. I think on the application, for journalism majors at least, they strongly recommend that applicants include this essay in order to help their chances to get into such a selective major. Finally, I'd apply as soon as you can because OU uses rolling admissions and so the earlier you get your name in, the earlier you're considered and the less competition you'll have.

Good luck!

Bump to make active
