Recommendations:
-Counselor: He doesn’t know me that well, I feel that it is a meh letter, I’m counting on my teachers’ letters to be good
To be fair, our school has five counselors for 1,700 students, so they don’t really know any of us. It will not stand out, but I feel that the letter is not bad,
-Honors and AP Chemistry Teacher: Had him for two years, likes me a lot, i was the only one of four that did their homework in one unit, we bonded over Mad Max and Dragon Age!! I feel like it is a very good letter. We always rant about the need for green energy,
-Honors and AP Physics Teacher: Had him for two years, he knows me pretty well, he is well aware of my politics and agrees with them, we bonded over that and he has helped me address our (horrible) board of education, He told me this is the best letter of recommendation he has written so far
-Mentor at MSI: I feel like it will be an okay letter, but I asked her because I want to stress my involvement at MSI and what I have done there.

Essays:

  • Common App: Wrote about reclaiming my identity as Latina, because in my youth, due to our racist community, I would white pass and deny my heritage. I wrote how I overcame that following the format of how to make Tamales, because making food with my Mexican family and reading Magical Realism(Latino created literary style) I learned to love and accept my Latina side
  • Extended: I did an old prompt, taking an historical figure and putting them in a new setting. I did La Malinche (prolific Mexican figure that is very controversial) as the Latina Constitute Director under Trump in his 2016 Campaign. It was so hard to write because I could not fathom how any POC would support Trump (it took a LOT of research), I wrote it with an ambiguous tone, not approving or disapproving of her, and ended it with her casting her vote. I made it so the reader doesn’t really know if she is voting for Trump. I am so ridiculously proud of this essay.
-Why UChi? am iffy on this one, I wrote it in a rush, but I explained my drive to help my people and to create reform for Latino people. Focused on my love of learning and how UChicago caters to that.
-Favorite books/art/inspirational stuff: Dragon Age, Cats, Caifanes, Hamilton, House of the Spirits, One Hundred Years of Solitude, Invisible Man, Swan Lake

Prospective major:
-Biochemistry
-Chemistry
-Political Science
