Have no idea of her chances, but I love her ECs. I would play up her entrepreneurial experience and skills; Wesleyan really goes for the whole “Practical Idealism” combination. Perhaps, W&L does too.
I also have no idea of her chances.
Without a test score, the academic part of the pre-read will be focused on grades and course rigor. Her ECs look great.
W&L and Wesleyan are very different schools though and I would encourage her to do as much research as possible to see what school might be the best fit.
Did the coaches give you a timeline for pre-read decision? Did they ask if you are applying for FA?
Continue to stay in touch with the coaches, and also continue to reach out to other coaches at schools that may be of interest.
Good luck.
Thank you so much @Mwfan1921 and @circuitrider !
We feel a lot better. The W&L coach told her it takes about a week and if she gets through admissions he wants to talk offer. The Wes coach is out of the office until later this month, with limited access to email. They are both pretty enthusiastic about her because she is the top recruit out of our state in her position. They didn’t ask if we were applying for FA. The Wes coach did send us the FA link.
She has some safety schools DI, NAIA that she is still talking to, but really focused on these two.
W&L is so out of her normal bubble/comfort zone that she’s intrigued; likes the idea of greek life, old south, history. Wes is probably more her personality. Really she just wants to play her sport and we want her to get an amazing education.
Thanks again!
Ask direct questions to the coach. This should be coming from your child, not you.
NESCAC schools like Wesleyan use a banding system to rate athletes. Recruited athletes get support in the form of a tip or a slot. These have differing meanings, and can mean the difference between an acceptance and deferral/denial. Make sure you ask the coach exactly what he/she is offering.
The Bowdoin Orient posted a 3 part series a few years ago that goes into detail about the NESCAC athletic recruiting process. I can’t seem to find it now, but take a look. I’m sure that Wesleyan probably has a similar system.
I would suggest that you also visit the athletic sub-forum here on CC. There are some parents that can give you tips on how to handle discussions with the coach. Best of luck.
She got the greenlight from admissions at W&L and a roster spot!
She is very excited!
