Stats:
SAT: 2150
GPA (W): 3.9 something
I’ve taken multiple APs and honors classes throughout high school. I also have pretty good ECs.
I applied November 7th and have yet to hear back. I know it usually takes a while to receive a decision, but I can’t help but worry. I know that colleges like upward trends in GPAs, and although my GPA isn’t terrible or anything like that, it’s been more of a downward trend over the past 4 years. Freshman year, I finished with a 4.1 weighted. Sophomore year, a 4.0, and then junior year, a 3.9. I let my grades slip in a few of my harder math classes, so I have a couple Cs on my transcript, and a number of Bs in classes as well. Nothing lower than that, but it definitely could be better… I do have a good number of As, thankfully.
Do you think admissions might see this as a red flag?
Yeah, they don’t like a downward trend, but you can’t change that at this point. One or two Cs is okay, but a couple might be problematic. However, if you don’t receive a decision before semester 1 of your HS ends, there’s a way to increase your chances. If you get decent grades or at least grades consistent or better than your past, send them into admissions. This will show that you’re committed and have the grades to prove it. Might make the difference. So boost up your 1st semester senior year grades and send them into admissions if they’re still processing. Your chances currently I’d say are a toss-up, but you have a decent chance.
I think your chances of admission to CLA are good. Your SAT score puts you in the top 25% of the incoming freshman profile for CLA. You don’t mention class rank, but if you’re in the top 20% of your class your chances are even better. If your transcript indicates that you took a challenging course load, I wouldn’t worry too much about a few C grades.
