Any tips would be greatly appreciated on what i should work on and how my chances look, thanks!

It’s kinda early to know for sure, I won’t chance you.

jk

Your extracurriculars are good (better than mine, ha ha), so that shouldn’t be a concern. Don’t worry about your class rank in sophomore year, I took my first AP my sophomore year and got B’s in it both semester, junior and sophomore year should make your rank go up since you get good grades.

As far as improving your chances, study for the SAT. Do multiple practice tests and get a feel for the timing and style of it. Print out a long list of vocab words you don’t know and study it for the critical reading section. Make sure you know your grammar rules for the writing section and look up tips for the essay (the SAT essay is pretty silly, but know what the essay graders want).

For CS, the math score is most important (the middle 50% range of those admitted last year was like 780-800), followed by critical reading (same range), and then writing (720-800). For CMU, they only consider your superscore, so that’s a plus. Anyway, getting the sections of your superscore SAT in those ranges will give you a pretty good chance. I got in early decision for CS a few days ago, my scores were M:790 CR:800 WR:720 if that helps.

My PSAT wasn’t that remarkable either, just worrry about the regular SAT. I can’t say if you have a good chance yet since it’s early, but if it helps, you don’t have a bad chance. Good luck.
