I am currently a junior and looking to ED to Columbia in the fall. I am currently an IB student. I understand that a lot of college acceptances have to do with the essay and supplements, but I am just wondering how I currently look on paper.
Major: History or Poli Sci
ACT: 32 (retaking in April - I got a 35 on Reading and I am planning on superscoring)
GPA: UW 3.6, W 3.8 (this will shoot up this year as my school offers minimal AP/IB until Junior year)
SAT II: World (760), will take U.S. and Math II this year
AP’s/IB’s:
- 10th → AP Chem (3 - won’t report) AP World (4)
-11th/12th → IB Physics HL, IB History HL, IB Psych HL, IB English HL, IB French SL, AP Calc BC I/II (I will take Syracuse University Multi-Variable Calc next year)
Leadership EC’s:
- Student Government Co-President (We tied but will run again together next year)
- Marching Band Section Leader (11th Grade)
- Marching Band Drum Major (12th Grade - already selected)
- Band Vice-President (10th and 11th Grade)
- Concert Board Founder/President (12th Grade) → Essentially I worked with my band directors to dissolve the government and place a more centralized and organized structure in its place
- Astronomy Club Treasurer (10th and 11th Grade - Not in my interests but I am close to the teacher and she asked me to join it)
Other EC’s:
- National Honor Society
- Peer Tutors Club
- Organizing a school shooting awareness day (my CAS project)
- Marching Band (4 years - I have been in Concert Band since 4th Grade and play Alto Sax and Bari Sax)
- Symphonic Winds (Extracurricular band, 10th, 11th, 12th Grade - we competed at NYSSMA last year and won gold with distinction)
- NYSSMA solo (11th Grade)
- Field of Honor (Band event that helps bring awareness to local veterans, 10th, 11th)
- I have 2 recommendations set from my AP World teacher and my IB English teacher (both only do a set amount each year)
- Also I have a job that I maintain throughout the school year, I am not sure if that means anything
Please let me know what you think of my chances for a Columbia ED.
