Chance me Duke ED

Hello world. After reading plentiful discussions about schools I’ve applied to, I’ve decided that it’s time to have myself evaluated; this could be for the better or for the worse. Anyway, here goes nothing.

~Stats~
SAT: 1400 (730 Math; 670 English (I know))
GPA (unweighted): 3.97
GPA (weighted): not too sure but it’s around 4.4 I think…
Rank: 19/550
AP Scores: Gov (4)
Senior Courses: AP Chem (96), AP Bio (95), German V (100), DE English (97). Next semester is just honors classes + AP Micro
SAT II: n/a

~other info~
Gender: male (white)
Income bracket: <75k. FAFSA for the winnnnn. I want to detail that I couldn’t afford more ap tests or sat subject tests, so hopefully they’ll view finances as an extenuating circumstance.
Personal Essay: 10/10. I think the essay really showcased my passions for language in a fun and effective way.
Supps: 9-10/10. The writing itself is strong, but limited in its rather low word limit. I’d still say it’s creative and unique, though.

EC:
-Varsity XC
-Varsity Track
-German, Chinese, and Spanish club
-Part-time job: I wrote that having worked late the night before my sat affected my reading comprehension. This job really gave me the money I needed and thus I did not get my shift covered.
-NHS (a staple for sure)
-Boy Scouts (Eagle w/palms)

Awards:
-Scored 97th percentile for national German exam
-Won a Spanish and Chinese speaking competition (not very big lol)
-Eagle Award
-Varsity letters

All in all, I’m no outstanding applicant. I attribute some of my shortcomings to my rough family life, which for the longest time constrained my intrinsic desire for academic excellence. I really think getting into Duke would give me the opportunity to rise above my toxic environment and set aloft my potential. Please let me know what you think!

Also, I plan on applying to Emory EDII (if rejected by Duke), UNC, UVA, and Cornell. Chances on these would be incredibly helpful as well. Most of these schools are considered reach, but I did get into my safeties so far.

Thank y’all

Not trying to be a downer, but your test scores put you on the low side for Duke. However, if you wrote sincerely in your essay, have good recommendation letters, you have just as good of chances as my daughter with a 34. Good job on the Eagle Scout that’s a good award. Cornell would be great odds because they are considered the easiest to get into if you are qualified and you are. Good luck to you… I know the wait is killing me.

Thank you for your input. I think my writing helps a lot, though it may not compensate for my low scores/lack of subject tests and such. Good luck to your daughter!

I am freaking out about the decisions.
I am applying to Duke for Ed:
SAT score:1310
SAT2:670 and 650 Math 2 Bio
Supplement essay:9/10
Common app essay:10/10 according to my mentor.
Chance me
Thank you

@Dianadee not too sure if the comment section is the best place to have people chance you. Anyway, you’re missing a lot of information that people take into consideration (what you do in and outside of school, course rigor, rank (if applicable), the list goes on.

@dianadee wishing you the best of luck. I agree with instresssed, it is hard to say without a clear picture. From what you have posted, I don’t think your test scores are on par. Many people with scores in the 1500’s get rejected. However, Duke does say that they look at the whole picture and you may write something really good or just be that well-rounded student they are looking for. I personally like to think you don’t have to be the look at me student, head of everything, a leader in all you do. Just be uniquely you. Hopefully, you applied EA to give you the best opportunity.
