Chance Me!!!!! Early Decision 1 NYU

My anxiety is through the roof right now (AHHHHHHHH!!!). I haven’t done a chance me yet, so why not now as I’m stressed out beyond belief?

Intended Major: Political Science in the College of Arts and Science
Region: Virginia
GPA: 95/100. Taking the hardest classes that my school offers. Also going to a Governor’s school… Hopefully that helps. All 3 people who applied from my school last year RD got accepted.
SAT: 1260 (650 reading, 610 math). Meh, not the best, but definitely not the worst. I think my leadership/extracurriculars, essays. and recommendations will overshadow this.
Essays: In my common app essay, I chose the failure prompt. Talked about my internship, and how I learned from my failures while doing Voter Registration on the streets of Petersburg. Learned lots of great people skills, and have registered 250+ people to vote up to this day.
For my why NYU essay, I talked about being the first person in my family to grow up in the US, and why I thought NYU would be the perfect school for me.
Recs: 1 from my 11th grade Dual Enrollment English teacher. She attended Wesleyan.
1 from my 11-12th grade Dual Enrollment US History/Government teacher. He got his phD from UVA.
1 from my boss from my internship for the Democratic Party of VA. He got his masters from Stanford.

CHANCE ME!!!

are you ready to pay for nyu prices? They aren’t known for great FA and with ED they have no incentive to offer any.

@Dustyfeathers yeah, I have Scholarships out of NYU, and my parents and I have discussed it, assuming I do get accepted. Also, I’m hoping for a least some money from the school!

Cons -
Your SAT leaves a lot to be desired - it converts to a 1760 on the old SAT, which raises some doubts about the inflation of your GPA. “Not the best not the worst” for NYU would be around the 1350 to 1450 range.

Furthermore, the Hillary for America/Democrat intern/volunteer isn’t incredibly interesting, and you seem to be banking on it. There will be several students who have volunteered in politics.

Pros -
Varied EC’s, good letters of rec, awards.

Without the SAT, you’d be a strong applicant. With the SAT, it leans more to rejection. However, being first-generation may help there.

@nursewratchet yeah, I wish I had gotten my SAT just a lil higher. But when I went to NYU, they said that if you have a great GPA and ok SAT score, you would still get in. But I do acknowledge that it could be better. Also, with my internship, I had the opportunity of meeting/being recognized by lots of big political figures, which is hopefully distinct from others who also interned! Also hoping that my abundance of leadership positions helps out. Anything can happen
