Chance me for Arizona State and University of Central Florida

Hey guys so stats are:

1370/1400 2070/2400 SAT
3.9 GPA
ECs: Tae kwon do, youth opera chorus, yoga, speech and debate

And I'm also looking for info on MERIT scholarships....so let me know :)

I think your stats look good so far. But it seems that you haven’t given enough info. Is that GPA weighted or unweighted. Have you taken any AP or Honors classes? If that GPA is uw you could always look for a better state or private university.

Either weighted or unweighted, with that GPA you can definitely get into ASU, but they don’t offer too many merit scholarships. It’s not a very competitive school to get into. I don’t know if you can get into the honors college (Barrett’s) because it is super competitive to get into and they like to see high SAT, SAT IIs, APs and honor classes. Most of scholarships are needs based, so I do suggest you check out outside scholarships if you don’t qualify for the needed amount from the school.

Also, check out this page, as ASU has listed some private scholarships so you can get a feel:
https://students.asu.edu/scholarships/general

Right sorry GPA is unweighted, and I have taken APs with all 5’s.

Then you’ll get in, no worries. And I’d say you have a good chance at the honors college if you’re interested in it. Usually applying for the honors college isn’t too much extra work (just extra supplemental essays, etc.). :D

Yeah, you’ll definitely will get in. But I think you could look at more slightly competitive colleges. I’m sure one of them should give out great merit scholarships.

I know those schools arent majorly competitive, and I always pictured myself going to an elite private school. But as I won’t qualify for any need-based financial aid but still have to pay for college all by myself I really gotta think about costs. And while I’m a strong student and sharp and keep up and everything I don’t have the kind of statistics and SAT scores where near-ivies and super elite private schools would throw money at me after I got in. So cost is a big factor for me.

Also, I never thought I’d like ASU and was dragged to a Sun Devil Day but as soon as I got there I didn’t want to leave, we spent aaallll day there and I just loved the energy about the campus and I could see myself being really happy there. And I get the same feeling about UCF and everything I’ve heard about it and the campus even though I haven’t been there yet. There’s just something about them that excites me and makes it hard for me to see myself anywhere else, you know?

And as for ASU, the business program is actually highly competitive - I’m not saying it’s Wharton or anything, but several rankings have it in the top 50 or in some cases top 25 in the nation/world. Especially combined with the Barretts honors college which grows in prestige yearly and the W. P. Carey Academy - the elite business program - it becomes a strong contender. Having instate tuition due to military legal residency doesn’t hurt either, like I said the cost is important. And UCF is in the center of the largest tourism and hospitality economy in the U.S., which is an industry I’d like to start a business in.

But if anyone has any other suggestions of schools with great business programs who won’t break my bank, I’d be happy to look into them :)

Haha your in no matter what, have you thought of any UC’s?

Can you chance me back?

UC schools like University of California?
Ummm well the best ones like UCLA and UC Berkeley are the kinda schools that are really good and have great business but they wouldn’t give me a lot of money or anything you know and since I’m out of state there…
Yeah sure, I’ll go find your chances post

Yeah, I know what your talking about, but a smart person like you shouldnt be going to ASU.
