I am applying for Choate and Andover. My top pick is Choate.
I am a mixed racial, asain and white. I am a piano player who has performed in many prestigious halls and has won many international piano competitions. Aside from piano, I also do model un and have won miss congeniality in the east coast USA pageant.
My SSAT score is satisfactory. (97th percentile) In math, I have competed and won a gold pin for MOEMS. I also volunteer 4 hours a week to teach underprivileged kids piano. I can speak, read and write fluent Mandarin. This year, in 8th grade, I have finished algebra 2 and trig. I have also attended Choate Summer School twice. My interview went great.
I have one major concern. I got straight A’s all last year and most of this year except I have gotten 1 B+ on my geometry course.
You are an extremely strong candidate for admission to Choate Rosemary Hall based on your qualifications and on your 2 summer terms spent at Choate.
Thank you for your thoughts!
I would really appreciate it if someone could help me. I have over 250 views, but only 1 reply!
Also a prospective applicant, so obviously I can’t chance you. Your academics seem amazing, if you can extend on your “performed in may prestigious halls and won many international piano competitions” that would be nice (list specific awards, organizations, etc.) From what you listed, your ECs are also pretty good. You shouldn’t worry about 1 B+, and if that is your only worry about BS then you’re likely to have a good chance. But I can’t say anything for sure.
Thanks for the reply! My life is encompassed by piano is every area. I have performed in carnegie hall 3 times, royal albert hall, mozarteum, and more. I have passed level 7 ABRSM, (would be level 8 if it wasn’t for covid). I have won Sonatina medal recently (memorize 14 sonatina movements) I have also won grand virtuoso competition recently and many more in the past that I don’t really want to list.
Oh wow, that is a lot. I couldn’t compare Good luck to you, think you have a good chance, if you really mentioned it in your interviews and/or essays.
From what I see, you have a really good chance of getting in. Your piano is outstanding, and you seem to have a clear passion for it. Math is also one of your strengths (wow I can never compete lol) which will give you a great boost!
I wouldn’t be surprised if you got into one of those schools. However, you only applied to those two schools, so there is a chance you won’t have options on M10.
I also applied to a safe school next to my house, but thanks for the thoughts and for taking the time to respond!
