Hi,
I’m an international student from Australia, I was wondering what my chances at Boston college would be.
GPA: 3.7-3.8
SAT: 1900
Expected ATAR (Australian ranking system): 97-98 meaning I’m in the top 2-3%
Mostly straight a’s occasional b’s, doing hardest subjects available
ECs
babysitting
tutor
mock trials - 2 years
debate
young mercies (service group)
social justice group
summer job at finance company
chess club
volunteering at mercy care child care and also at my local water polo club; coaching and reffing
6 years of water polo out of school: 4 national competitions, 1 pan pacific competition, 1 Europe training camp
5 years of water for school - a grade and honours
achievers club for 3 years
I was also accepted into the national youth science forum which is sponsored by rotary club and was chosen out of the 300 students to give the address. They said I was chosen because of my inter personal skills and demeanour.
I don’t need to apply for financial aid, I don’t know if that improves my chances.
Dear olivia1999 : In order to provide sufficient academic insight, we would need to see the actual courses you are taking in your high school career. Boston College prefers to see four years in each of the five core subjects : English/Language/Composition, History, Mathematics, Science, and Foreign Language. Most successful applicants will have Advanced Placement (AP) or International Baccalaureate (IB) courses towards the final years of their scholastic experience. With your strong ATAR, you might well have many of these boxes already ticked, but understanding “the hardest subjects available” is critical.
Boston College is need blind during the admissions process - meaning your ability to pay (or not) is NOT factored into the acceptance decision.
The largest question outstanding from your profile however is something that has gone unstated : Why do you want to attend Boston College? Next, why does your inclusion in the Boston College Class of 2020 make the campus a better experience for others? Yours is an interesting profile and some additional material might provide a strong base for critique.
