I've already been accepted to UNC Chapel Hill EA as an in-state student, so I'm not under too much pressure to get accepted at Duke and Johns Hopkins University. Nevertheless, I'd still love to know my chances:

I applied RD for both Duke and JHU

GPA-4.56 W, 3.84 UW
Class rank- 24/518 (Just inside top 5%)

SAT- 2180 (800M, 700V, 680 W, 8 essay), only took once
I'm going to take two SAT II's this Saturday. Based on practice tests, I'm expecting 750+ on both of them.

AP's-
Calculus BC- 5, AB Subscore 5
US History - 5
AP Language and Composition- 4

I'm taking AP Statistics and AP Physics B this year

EC/Awards(my weakest point)-

Trumpet player- 7 years
Section leader in trumpet section of middle band at my school- 2 years
Bus Captain of the same band- 1 year
Pep Band- 2 years
Historian of Medical Club- 2 years
Cross Country, Track and Field- 2 years
NHS- 2 years
Math Club- 1 year
Latin Club- 1 year

AP Scholar
Perfect Attendance- 4 years
Certificate of Achievement for AMC 12

Essays: Great
Teacher recs: Great
Ethnicity: Asian- Indian

I was very lazy with my EC my freshman year (I had almost none). I started to pick things up Sophmore year though.

if you do indeed post 750+ sat iis for both tests, then i'd say you are a high match at jhu and a low reach at duke.
The reason i say this is because duke just announced they received the highest number of applications they have ever received, at about 23,000 but they still plan to accept around the same number for their class, so it's going to be extra competitive.

good luck and congrats on unc... i got deferred there, out-of-state with a bit lower stats :(

as morganmkm said, ECs are kinda weak. this year JHU and Duke will be even more competitive (Duke reason posted above, and JHU because it already accepted over 500 students this year as opposed to the usual ~400). I think your chances are ok, probably a low reach to reach at both. ethnicity won't help and the class rank is ok....not too good. Good luck!

Coincidentally, I am taking my SAT II's for Duke this Saturday as well. Which subjects did you choose?

I'd love to do Spanish (w/o listening), as I know that Duke suggests such, but I have not taken a Spanish class in two years. Also, the practice test is very difficult, so I'm playing it safe in U.S. History and Literature.

Anyway, your stats look good to me and your ECs are not bad at all.

Thank you for the reply, and good luck on your tests this Saturday.

I will be taking the Math II and Physics subject tests. If it were last year, I probably would have taken the US History test also, as I took APUSH then. Sadly, I've forgotten pretty much everything now.
Nevertheless, I think Math and Physics suit me well. The practice tests are indeed difficult, but there is a large curve for both tests. We'll see how it goes.
