Chance me for Duke?

I'm a rising junior from New Jersey. Female Asian, weighted GPA 4.2, and I'm counting on being in the top 10% of my class of around 700. I take as many AP classes that I'm allowed, so this year I'm taking 5 (micro, Calc BC, Lang/Comp, Physics 1, US History) and I'm taking Honors French 4. Hopefully this will raise my GPA, my goal would be 4.5 or above by senior year. I haven't taken the SATs for real yet, but at camp I got 2190. Planning on raising this by senior year!

Extra Curricular activities: Ballet is my most serious activity, and I dance four times a week (which totals to around 10 hrs a week) and I teach kids ballet at the local studio. I have been dancing for nine years now, and I plan on doing ballet in college, but not majoring in dance. I'm in the school's top band, and I'm also a part of Forensics Speech and Debate. I'm also starting up Model UN at my school with a couple of friends, where I'm secretary. I'm not as into Forensics, band, and MUN, but I need these to get into NHS this year. I've gotten a couple of awards from Forensics.

Last summer, I spent three weeks in NYC for a dance summer intensive (Bolshoi Ballet Academy), and next year I'm planning on applying to a summer internship, I'm not sure where yet.

What are my chances with Duke? I hear Duke likes extracurriculars, but I know it won't matter if I'm spread out too thin..I'm a bit scared that I'm involved in too much, although I do consider myself pretty serious with ballet, which is why I'm going to spend a lot more time in that next year. I'm not sure what I should major in yet, but I might in economics.

Please chance me! :DD

decent chance

You’ll need to take the SAT and SAT IIs. You should try getting over 2250 on the SAT and over 750s on your SAT IIs. Keep doing what you love, but try getting involved in things that you would want to major in (including your SAT IIs)!

I had a friend at my high school who was doing pre-professional ballet at the Princeton ballet school, NHS, lots of stuff, high GPA and SAT too but she got rejected from most top schools. I’m assuming it’s because ballet means really little to colleges. She got into GW, Northeastern, and off the wait list at Emory. Rejected from every Ivy and schools around the caliber of Duke.

Hi I’m a Duke alumni and I volunteer for alumni interviews.

To be competitive for Pratt you would need total SAT I > 2250 (approx 730-750 on each). For Trinity the scores would be approx 50 points lower. For details see the class profile from 2017:

You seem to like Ballet a lot, so I’m confused as to why you wouldn’t consider majoring in Dance? In recent years Duke admissions has given priority to applicants with talent in music/arts:

Why don’t you take advantage of this? Otherwise you will not stand out.
