Chance me for EA schools

None of the schools I’m applying to admit by major. I’m assuming they look at what you put down, since they ask, but once you get there you can declare whatever major you like ( I mean there are some exceptions such as BME at JHU, but nothing I’m considering in any case).

Also, I have done my research on JHU and the other colleges I’m applying to but I figure I didn’t need to spend a ton of time talking about why I want to go there for this thread.

I know my GC’s response wasn’t very enthusiastic but she hasn’t been very helpful
overall (eg I asked her to look over my college list and all she recommended was to add some CUNYs(which I don’t want to attend), which I’ve since found is simply my school’s advice to everyone.

Also I do have schools that I would be more than happy to attend that are more likely admits than Yale but Yale is simply my first choice is all.

Ps I don’t just dislike the SUNYs because of rank but they just don’t “click” with me. And believe me I’ve tried really hard to like them because I want to actually like my safeties

My comment to JHU was based on you saying ‘they are supposed to have a good’…so you don’t communicate as researched.

You shouldn’t attend any school you don’t click with so maybe your safety shouldn’t be a SUNY. There’s lots of schools with a similar profile and unless you have large need, a similar cost.

You don’t want recommendations but there are great schools out there - example a Va Tech as a UGA sub or even FSU. A Bama or Arkansas as a UF alternate, etc. so a back up that’s similar to your preferred, etc. so you cover both bases…your desired but a similar of safety if it falls short.

Good luck.

No worries, bad wording on my part (regarding JHU).

I do have other safeties. SUNY might be cheaper but not enough for me to choose it over most other schools. If anyone’s wondering my most desired (hopefully) safety is Mount Holyoke. I woul actually genuinely love to attend and if anyone wants to throw in my chances for them please feel free.

Likely

If you’re open to a women’s college (non-CIS male) and Georgia definitely consider Agnes Scott. We toured there and really liked it. Beautiful campus and walkable to lots of stuff in Decatur which is a vibrant and pretty safe feeling area. There’s a MARTA stop there for access to the rest of Atlanta too.

Agnes Scott is incredibly diverse. White people are non-majority (about 40% I think) and LGBTQ friendly. They have a great program called SUMMIT. All students travel abroad and do internships. You would definitely get money there.

I think you have gotten very solid advice from @collegemom3717 and @Mwfan1921 to seek GC advice. Given your school is public and has 1500 kids, I appreciate that it might be tough but you need that input to
potentially avoid wasting your early options.

Impossible got us to accurately access you if even you don’t know where you stand and or how your school typically places both broadly and at the specific schools you mention.

I would also add that given your upward trend (congratulations) your LOR will be extremely important. Your teachers will be able to quantify and qualify you in relative terms. Think hard about who is best qualified to describe the student and person you have become.

It is great that you have already considered cost and “set” your list. I will respect your request not to suggest schools but given your obvious preference for schools like Yale, Middlebury, Brown and Mount Holyoke there are lots of less selective options beyond the larger state schools on your list that might be a better fit.

Hi if anyone is still checking this thread I’d like to provide some updates:

When I retook the SAT I scored a 760 on math, so 1540 overall

I was recently admitted to UGA and UAlbany

With this in mind could anyone tell me if this gives you a better idea of my chances at the other schools I listed, particularly UFL and Yale? Thank you!

If you got into UGA (congrats), UF is possible. I had labeled both targets above. Yale is Yale so it’s a long shot for anyone.

Will 40 points help ? Well it won’t hurt. Good luck.

Doesn’t matter what we say. We are not AOs. And your apps are in.

Good luck.
