Essays:
Common App (9/10) - talks about the concept of pride and dignity as it relates to my cultural background and sexuality
Why Duke (8/10) - fairly standard, about how Duke opportunities like Duke Engage and the location of Duke will allow me to use my passion for social justice and give back to underprivileged in NC
Diversity (9/10) - about the lessons I learned in my upper-middle class suburb with a high Asian population and how that contrasts with my elementary school experience when I lived in a very small, working class white town.

Teacher Recommendation:
AP Lang Teacher: (10/10)- I have a great relationship with him, both in class and outside of it. Often go to his room to hang out after school and just chat. In addition, got a high A in his class and the highest grade he’s ever given on a grad paper. Only issue is he’s a die hard UNC fan, but it doesn’t make a difference w/ the common app.

AP Comp Gov teacher: (9/10)- Super nice guy, very knowledgeable about the class he teaches. I did very well in his class and showed genuine interest every day. He’s also my MUN advisor so I’ve known him for a while and he knows how responsible I am. When I asked for a rec, he said he would be offended if I hadn’t asked him. I’ve read his writing and I’m confident that this rec is great.

Counselor Rec: (7/10) - Okay, each counselor at my school has 200-ish students that they’re in charge of, not much time to get to know her but she’s pretty nice and knows the rigor of my course load

sorry, class rank was recently updated and I’m now ranked 14th

Seems a number of activities are either with little kids or based in the hs. 100 hours in the congressional internship is good, but isn’t long. Can you get involved in an established advocacy project right now? One where you work among adults, on a community need?

Your background is good, but you’d benefit from cementing it, somehow.
