Just got rejected from Barnard EDI so I’m feeling down on myself but I want to keep my head up. What do you think my shot is at getting into Smith this round?
First generation, low income student from a non-competitive school in PA. Planning on a double major in comp sci and dance, but I might only apply for dance because of the way my stats look
Stats
3.88/5 weighted GPA (not sure about unweighted because my school’s system is weird) - mental health issues explained in the additional info
33 ACT (35 English + reading, 32 science, 29 math)
My school has block scheduling which it does… also weirdly so it’s hard to take a ton of AP classes, but nearly all of my classes since freshman year have been honors and I’ve taken 2 APs before and 3 currently. I got 3s on both exams, so I’m probably not submitting the scores.
ECs:
TSA - 6 years; currently past-president of my chapter (can’t be president twice) and the lead state representative for my region.
I have about 80 volunteer hours each year helping with my district’s middle school TSA chapter.
Marching Band - 3 years; current color guard captain
Indoor Color Guard - full scholarship to a competitive indoor color guard with several wins at major competitions
Girl Scouts - 10 years; various volunteer projects
Youth Group - I lead the youth group at my small church.
Essays:
Personal essay is about how color guard taught me never to let my passion in dance slip away from me despite being forced to quit my classes because my family is poor.
Not sure about the supplement but the prompt can easily tie into the story the rest of my application tells.
My letters of rec are pretty good
Additional:
Should I try and make a dance video to add to the application? I’m not a great dancer anymore between having little formal training and being very out of shape thanks to quarantine, so I’m nervous it’ll reflect poorly on me if it’s bad.
