<p>Well, the bottom line is I was not the best student Freshman and Sophomore year. I took some challenging courses and did not perform too well. I picked up my GPA junior year, though I am afraid it is too little too late.</p>

<p>Cumulative GPA:
UW: 3.07
W: 3.4</p>

<p>Freshman Year:
GPA: UW - 2.8 --- W - 3.0
Took honors Geometry & honors Biology (got a C in both)</p>

<p>Sophomore Year:
GPA: UW - 2.9 --- 3.2
Took honors Chem (B) & adv (doesn't count as honors but is still high level) PST (C)</p>

First Attempt:
1710 (CR - 550 --- M - 640 --- W - 520)
I am taking this one or 2 more times. I have taken 3 practice tests since and am shooting for 2000+. The results of the practice tests are:
1840 (CR - 580 --- M - 690 --- W - 570)
1900 (CR - 600 --- M - 700 --- W - 600)
1950 (CR - 590 --- M - 730 --- W - 630)
I took these in 3 consecutive weeks while taking a prep course and am taking the march SAT.
I am also taking Chem and either Math I or Math II SAT II subject tests.</p>

<p>QUICK QUESTION: Does Cornell require you to send all test scores?</p>

<p>EC's:
- I did habitat for humanity 3 years in a row. I went to NC to build houses for those less fortunate than me.
- I play 2 instruments and have performed at local restaurants. (guitar & bass)
- I will have participated in 5 model UN committes by the end of this year and maybe a few more next year before I apply. I won best novice my first time and have my second committee this Saturday.
- I participate in MADMen(Make A Difference Mentors), which is a program where I mentor another student, one on one, academically, socially and organizationally.
- I play 3 sports per year (soccer & track), though nothing significant here.
- I will be participating in the Drexel summer materials engineering camp this summer.</p>

<p>In addition I am applying for the drexel visiting scholars program where I will be able to take 2 semesters of college courses before I apply, assuming I get in, but I don't know if I will.</p>

<p>Do I have any shot at Cornell Engineering or Cornell at all?</p>

<p>Definitely a reach, I had a kid get rejected to ENG last year in my school with a 3.85 GPA, and above 700’s in math and CR with a good workload,decent SAT II’s, and a really solid EC lineup…</p>

<p>I don’t think it’s worth it to apply, your GPA and SAT scores are very low for Cornell, especially engineering, which is arguably the most competitive school to get into in Cornell (second to AEM perhaps). Take a look at last years RD thread to see the type of kids who get in and the strength of those who get rejected/waitlisted.</p>

<p>It’s a major reach. Your gpa and test scores are low for Cornell. Your ECs aren’t outstanding by Cornell’s standards either</p>

<p>Honestly, I would save my money and not apply if I were you unless you have some hook (Legacy, First-gen, URM). Your GPA and SATs are both way under Cornell norms, Engineering is the hardest to get into, your ECs are ok but not enough to balance your low scores.</p>

<p>Unfortunately, it’s a probably a far reach. Two years of middling grades are tough to overcome for Cornell, and your SAT CR is rather low for Cornell.</p>

<p>However – I disagree philosophically with many here. Assuming that you put together a list of colleges that are realistic based on your statistics, (and the application fee is not a hardship on your family) I see nothing wrong with applying to one (or even two) super reach schools.</p>

<p>If nothing else, you won’t go through life wondering what would have happened if only you’d applied.</p>

<p>I’m going to be honest with you.
There’s absolutely no chance of you getting into Cornell.
Cornell only considers SAT scores at the 1600-scale, meaning that your writing score doesn’t matter.
You only score around the low-1300 range, which isn’t enough for Ivy League schools.
You should pass the 1400-mark at the bare minimum, and scores above the 1500-mark are considered as “competitive”.
Also, your GPA is way too low, and judging from how low your weighted GPA is, it seems as if you barely took any rigorous courses during your first 3 years of high school.</p>

<p>Just because you did better during your Junior year doesn’t mean it balances out the previous 2 years.</p>

<p>Another sore thumb is the number of times you have taken the SATs - be wary of that.</p>

<p>Yea it seems like your GPA is just too low for the Cornell Standards, although im sure the fact it is rising looks good! but save your money and apply somewhere else probably is a good decision</p>

<p>How can a non-AP class unweighted GPA 3.3 and weighted 4.0? And an AP class unweighted 2.9 become weighted 4.0? These look incorrect. I think your overall GPA on your transcript won’t be at 3.4. </p>

<p>I suggest you recalculate it before you write it on any of your applications. Otherwise when there is difference between your self reported GPA and your GPA on transcript, you will put yourself in a disadventaged position.</p>

<p>I don’t think your thought that response through 2Daswell. At my school honers is +8 points and AP is +12 points. Above a 95 is a 4.0. My overall WILL be a 3.4 after weighting if you factor in my freshman and sophomore years. Unweighted will be a ~3.1. Also, don’t forget that I am a junior currently.</p>

<p>@Caruso707- how’s your class rank? If a 3.4 w/3.1 uw is really good for your school then maybe having such a low gpa won’t kill you. But unless you’re top 10% of your class, that gpa/sat scores are too low for Cornell.</p>

<p>My school does not rank. It is a top public in NJ. Rank 125 in the nation as far as public’s go. I am top 30-50% but this is not reported so good students who are shadowed by the 4.0 UW’s do not look bad</p>
