Hi,
I hope I do this right!
I’m planning on applying to:
Universty of Maryland - College Park
University of Maryland - Baltimore County
UC - Berkeley
MIT
Caltech
Johns Hopkins
Tufts
Northwestern
Georgia Tech
Duke
I want to major in engineering for sure
Asian female, upper middle class income, technically first generation but I’m not really
Scores:
GPA: 4.0/4.0 in high school, got a B in middle school on a high school course but not sure if that counts
WGPA: Nearly 4.8? 4.78 maybe?
SAT Math 2: 800, took physics today, we’ll see
SAT 1: 1580 (800 M, 780 R/W), not planning to retake
PSAT: 1510 both sophomore and junior year
APs: NSL - 5, CS - 5, taking Biology, World, Lang, Calc, and Stat this year, expecting 4s and 5s on all of them
Other stuff:
USABO Semifinalist - I kind of bombed semifinal test I’m thinking about getting back into competition math next year to do AMC and friends (dropped that after freshman year when I barely missed AIME cutoff), and maybe doing NACLO and F=MA next year
FIRST Robotics - Business Lead + Electronics last year, senior year I’m going to be Vice President
We organized an FLL Jr Tournament and we’re going to organize an offseason event next fall, I’m in charge of both projects
Research internship, the one I did junior year went to some snazzy conferences, I’m going to do another one in a different lab this summer
CubeSat, some friends and I started a team to build a small satellite + launch it, let’s see how this goes
700+ service hours, the bulk of them are from three things (helping out at a science museum place + camp counselor + internship + robotics) that I really focused on, got the President’s Volunteer Service Award - Gold
Science Olympiad, got some district awards last year but couldn’t do it this year because of time, I’ll do it senior year
Envirothon, which I’m not very good at, but my team does pretty well at the county level?
School debate team, hopefully will be captain of this too next year? I’m not doing too well this year, but I might qualify for the county championships
NHS member but NHS at my school is really dumb I won’t even put this on my resume
Some minor math awards, mostly state 1st-3rd places and team competitions, I might put one or two on and leave the most off
A couple of public speaking awards
Violin for ~8 years, I do county orchestra but I’m not very good
Dance for ~5 years, I’m pretty good, we do a lot of performances and I’ll do a big solo at the end of senior year which should be fun
Kumon, I tutor there on weekends for some $$
What do you guys think?
