Other:
I’ve had some extenuating circumstances during high school (Lost Home in the middle of my Freshman Year and had a limited workspace for most of the other three years due to it - Was able to keep up my grades with the exception of dropping a AP Test)
Took a full load of High School Credit Classes my 8th Grade Year - Transcript Reflects this
High School Only had 2 AP Courses (AP Bio and Art History)
Did Major Speech and Research Project Junior Year - Wrote and Presented Speech about Right-Wing Political Extremism to School Assembly - not published.
How much would my hooks/circumstances effect my admission chances if at all? In particular my math was directly effected by both personal circumstances and COVID.
Yeah fair - I just looked up the definition of hook and I don’t think my circumstances qualify as a hook (Honestly I misremembered what that term was lol - thought it meant " unique circumstances" and not what college vine defined it as). Probably the main thing that I’ve been wondering (And why I decided to post here) is how much do colleges take into account circumstances like family crises or other events that have affected things like GPA & scores on the SAT/ACT(I was also not able to take Trig my Junior year due to being unable to register for the dual credit class due COVID among other things which significantly hurt my math score when I took the SAT and ACT)
I’ve applied already (Senior) to American (Waitlisted), GU, USC, GW ( and Rice and have been accepted to Southwestern, Seton Hall, Denver, Uni of San Fran, and UT-Dallas so I have options - I was mostly wondering about the colleges that are left. (Mostly wanting a reality check)
You applied to safeties, targets, and reaches - and reaches are unexpected.
Hopefully you can afford your choices.
Where are you leaning if had to decide now?
You’ll be fine - especially studying poli scie.
GW is different than American which is more traditional. Do you like having no campus or dining halls (GW)? For my daughter, it didn’t work, we left in the middle of the tour. AU was more her speed. My daughter boyfriend goes to Denver…says the food is horrid.
That’s another thing to check - Gtown is not known for school. GW uses local restaurants.
AU not known for school.
if i was going to college, I’d find one rated high in food - because you eat several times daily.
Anyway, you have some nice admits - so that’s awesome - and who knows, maybe you’ll get lucky on the rest.
And we are all assuming GW is affordable. Cost of attendance is over $70,000 a year, and the school does not guarantee to meet full need for all accepted students.
